Always something
How many 1/2 million $$ homeowners do you figure they will pick on?
The actual proposal is pretty dang nutty. Mandatory two week closures. I don't understand/comprehend the whole 50% long term gizza gazza either.
It doesn't directly affect me at all but is still a crappy situation for business owners, campers, and marina operators. In order to stay in business and profitable under these restrictions and added lease rates the consumer will end up footing the bill in the long run.
That is terrible! You mean that they may force the resort owners to give another person a shot at camping in a prime spot. I am sure that the other person would not be offended to stay in the background as I am sure that they pay less taxes than the people that have been at the same government subsidised place for 25 years. All taxpayers should have use to this property and not just the rich or the ones that have claimed "ownership" of government property. Just business.
That is one heck of a change. Gonna screw up a lot of folks.

What a shame. Seems like everyone is out to rip our lips off these days!
As one of the so called "Rich" that works 2 jobs so he can fish and camp, I hate what TVA is planing. I purchased a Park model camper for my seasonal spot. You can't easily move my camper and a lot of the camping site where I camp are very difficult to get in and out of. To difficult for a 1 week stay.
The campgrounds are a business, they should be allowed to be run in a matter that makes a profit for the campgound. It's not like there aren't spots open to camp any weekend other than a holiday.
IMHO TVA needs to be working on flood planing (Nashville flood this year) and power generation. They already took my famialies land that was waterfront in LBL.
There are campgrounds where campers haven't moved in 25+ years and you guys are okay with that? A lot of them have even built permanent structures attached to their trailers (which created havoc when trying to evacuate campers during this spring's flood).
That is akin to building a house on someone else's land without permission or a renter taking it upon themselves to take out walls in an apartment. The TVA owns the land. The campers are only subletting it.
Say you owned a beautiful piece of land and you leased it out to a farmer to grow crops on the tillable acreage. You drive by next spring and someone has placed a house smack in the middle of it because the farmer decided he would make a little extra money by renting that spot on your property to them for the next 25 years. Would you care? Maybe that's not exactly an apples to apples comarison but it's pretty close.
I agree with the structures built below 375 and I don't have a problem with the 2 weeks of everything moved out so they can inspect. But don't tell me I have to get in a lottery to see if I have a camping spot next year.
Why not?
I think I would be looking at non-TVA campgrounds right now if I wanted to continue on the way things have always been.
Confused, where do they think they are going to get the man power to enforce. How are they going to identify on how many days I am there. Are they going to make the camp owners the policemen? I think some bean counter is idealistic and un realistic.
You lease the land, why is TVA becoming big brother and dictating to the land owners and campers more rules than are enforceable. We camp for fun, not just to pay the TVA.
Chuck
The TVA does own the land in question. The campgrounds simply lease it from them and the campers sublet.
Per my understanding, that 2 week shutdown period is when all campers are supposed to be removed and the inspection can take place. That part of it would be pretty easy to enforce. I wouldn't think that it would take them that long to do the inspections. I assume that there is some sort of paper trail that shows how long each camper is supposed to be there.
Also, there isn't necessarily a lottery system going to be put in place. The campground operators just have to make sure that everyone that may be interested has a fair shot at getting a long term spot every year.

This will end up costing the campers a bunch of money. The price of a long term waterfront camping spot will skyrocket since TVA will effectivly cut the # of these spots in half. As usual with our government, the poor working guy who can barley justify what he is paying now will be the one screwed. The people with plenty of money will now be the only ones who will have the longterm waterfront sites. Since they will be able to pay to keep them.
The government of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich shall not perish unless---
THEY ARE VOTED OUT!!!
The Obama government is doing this in every area of our lives, 1% charge to everything payable to the Obama government.
Go vote as many times as you can to get the rascals out of there.

Not to be rude, dude... But what is it about you in particular that makes you more deserving of a campsite on public ground than me? Just because you've taken advantage of a loophole in the regs for years to allow you to use public ground as if it were private, doesn't mean that you've been doing the right thing all these years.
Spin it any way you want to, but you guys are angry because somebody is actually paying attention to what is going on for once. I mean, look at the marina operators. You guys are crying foul that they'll be driven out of business. That document shows that they only pay $1500 an acre per year! They've been subsidized like CRAZY for years by me and you to run a business on the water. Show me ONE other place where you could rent land for that kind of use for that kind of price. You won't find it.
It's high time that the TVA become accountable for their lands and in my opinion, they have every right to set the rules and enforce them.
Edited to add:
You guys screaming about Obama are basically wanting the government to continue to subsidize your lifestyle. Seems kind of hypocritical...
I thought this was a free-market society we lived in?
