Now that most all of my competition is on the water
and away from their shops, I can finally post this.
When was the last time you checked the water in your batteries? I checked mine Wednesday. Keep in mind that I installed mine in late April or early May and you know I haven't fished a whole bunch....lucky to get 4 or 5 trips a month. Guess how much water it took to top off mine after such little use, although admittedly, rough duty completely draining them several times? 2 Group 31s and a group 29. 1 GALLON of Distilled water. Dern, them things chew it up with heavy discharge and charge. The 29 only took a little bit, but the 31s were bad thirsty.
While I'm on maintenance.......when was the last time you checked the torque on your outboard mounting bolts and the jackplate if you have one? Just a thought, most people think if the mounting bolts snap, the motor falls off. Truth be told, they're 1/2 as likely to end up sitting in your lap if it happens at full throttle. The boat slows, but he motor is under full power and basically trips over the transom and walks up your boat. They do fail. My boat has had 1 set replaced (2 of 4 failed) and I've broken a set of rubber motor mounts on the on the motor itself. They're now solid instead of rubber.
BTW, just cause I'm only running a little 40, 50, 75, 90, 115 don't mean you don't need to check 'em. One of them itty bitty motors would be a whole lap full too.
Wannabe...
