i use gold aberdeen snelled hooks #6, hook em through the head out the back... Just my style idk if its right:D
I use a #8 long shank aberdeen hook and stick the point in their butt hole and thread them on and make the hook come out just below the head at the "collar". I think they struggle more when they're upside down, and it's harder for the gills to steal the cricket when he's threaded on the whole hook.
Cricket butt holes:D
Sorry, I'm immature!
Hoping to use some when I go trout fishin' in a few weeks. I know the trouts up in SW Wiscoland go crazy for crickets.
Yeah, the Troot also love the live crawlers too! Those Troots are good eatin' if they come from clean water.:p
I use a #6 or #8 long shank hook and stick it first in the segment between the head and the thorax and then turn the hook and stick it in the butt.
Tried crickets today, how the heck do ya get ahold of them without smashing the hell outta them, spent more time chasing them and trying to position them in my hand to skewer them than it was worth, i need to find a source for suicidal crickets that'll impale themselves! :-)
I found that you have to hypnotize them first
I can believe it, I looked like a Keystone Kop out there on my knees with a ball cap trying to catch that bug and talk it into holding still while i ran a fish hook through his butt.
Got any pictures or even better... video? Rofl
The one time I used a cricket I just hooked it through him and tossed it out there. Body was pretty smashed and oozing all kinds of stuff. The trout loved it.
I keep two cricket containers, one larger one to hold the majority of the crickets, and a smaller one that has the a funnel on the end to use for the ones I am fishing with immediately. The funnel allows you to get one into your hand then its just a matter of being gentle, yet firm, as you put them on the hook (Not that the cricket probably thinks being put on a hook is gentle or anything!) Like others I find going through the back just behind the head and down through the butt works best.
Okay, stupid question, how do ya get them in the funnel container, the ones i get come in a large cup with a dial contraption on the top.
