Now that size bait really attracts my attention.Very nice.
I have some #1 and a few more #2 Sickle hooks, but a 1/0, man I just don't know and for sure your not going to bend that hook and get your jig back, LOL!
Like the jig, but for me hook too big.
Love the jigs, I need to get me some of those eyes. Sea bass would eat these for a snack, but it would be their last. Definately not going to wear those hooks out.
Nice looking jigs!!!!!!!
Fatman
Man those are some very nice "BIG" jigs.I think the crappie around my area would be afraid of a jig like that but then again I never tried a larger bait.
hey Bob a few more feathers and you can go fish for sharks Nice-looking jig Bob.
Those are beautiful jigs.
A 1/4-ounce head with a 1/0 hook is a combination I use frequently for river bass. I think that those would be sensational river bass jigs as well.
There are plenty of gizzard shad in my local river. :)
Mr. Angler you done gone CRAZY! I think the heats gettin to ya bud! That hooks gonna find every limb in that lake! If the 1/0 aint big enough for ya let me know... Ive got a bunch of heavy wire 2/0 sickles.
Crappies will attack a big bait at times. Just look at the ones caught on crankbaits. One of the best SLAB CRAPPIE days I ever had was on bass sized chubs. That was in Pymatuning lake on the Ohio/Pa border.
If ever we should have took a picture that would have been the one. We were using size 1 and 2 abeerdeens that day. Had to use larger bobbers to keep chubs from pulling them under. None of the crappie we caught that day was under 13 or over 15. Don't recall how many but there where a pile of them.
Yea, if they eat crankbaits, they should eat those.
They look good. It amazes me the size bait a crappie will hit.
This is tomorrows bait to try 5/8 oz. walleye's 3/0 hook sculpin wool tails pearl cactus combo bodies 3 and 1/4 total lenght the little head in the middle is a 1/8!:mad:I'm mad at'im!
Sweet looking jigs!!!
Crappie have big mouths and can eat pretty big baits. Obviously their mouths are not as big as a largemouth bass, but they are big. I usually fish with minnows and use a 2/0 wire hook. I think I get a better hookset on big crappie, but yet I have caught some incredibly small crappie that didn't have any trouble at all in getting that hook in their mouths. I like your jig.
No need for a 2" jig all the time, they don't just eat small minnow fry. Lots of shad and bream around here with profiles more like that. Just so many people can't get over fishing the tiny jigs. :p
Use what works for sure. My biggest steelhead on a jig was on an egg sucking leech that was 6 inches long. Everyone else was using tiny stuff in clear water and caught nothing. Sometimes the fish just want a big meal and to not mess with eating the Hors d'œuvre.
been using a 3/32oz jig with a #1 sickle on it for years and now I make and tie some Pony head jigs with a 2/0 sickle and a #2 colorado blade to fish the lakes around here. When your home lakes have a length limit on the crappie that they have to be over 12" long before you can keep them you have to go big. But I am still amazed at how many 6-10" crappie you catch on those big jigs.
They sure do have a purdy mouth.
Awesome jigs!
Just matching the hatch, huh Flat. If they are eating three inch shad you need to be throwing baits that size. Is that something new on the two jigs on the left? What is it? I want some !!!
Those are nice but I am "Old school" and to me a 1/16 or a 1/32 is so much easier for the fish to inhale and suck into their mouth. The key is patience and a slow moving presentation. When you think you are fishing slow then slow it down some more but don't pause more than 2 sec.
