997SI Question

Installed a new to me 997 after having a 797 on the last boat. The 997 seems to draw the picture for regular 2D and the SI image in the background then update the screen about 1/2" at a time so the image is jerky. I seem to recall the 797 was a constant refresh so the image scrolled accross the screen in a more fluid way.

I have installed the new update (can't remember the version) within the last week so it has the latest upgrade available.

Any ideas why it would be so jerky like that? Maybe a setting or something I have turned on or off? I've only seen 1 other 997 in operation, but I don't recall the image jerking like mine seems to.

Did you up the scroll speed? Mine showed those symptoms when I slowed it way down to 1.

Just checked the manual and it makes a bunch of references to "Chart Speed", but none to Scroll Speed.

Any other thoughts?

Go to RESTORE DEFAULTS and it'll be where it's supposed to be. Only thing I've changed with mine is the screen color. On the chart speed, set it for about 2 over the MPH your going. If you're trolling around at 3 MPH, run your chart speed at 5. Mines never done what you're talking about and I've used it a bunch over the last 6 months. It shouldn't jerk like that at all.

That's what I was thinking. I'll hit the restore factory settings before my next trip out and start over. The only thing I've done so far is to change the color, turn fish ID off and I tried running chart speed up to 10.

I'll give it a shot and report back.

Lots of software problems with the new updates..

You may have to revert back to the previous version of software to see if that fixes your problem...

My 997 puked up after the down imaging upgrade. I did the upgrade to the downgrade followed by an upgrade to the upgrade and now Ima chittin' in tall cotton.:)

Be sure to set to factory defaults before any uploads of upgrade or downgrade. Sounds ignorant to do this, but that is just the way it is.

Dum question , you don't have the transducer mounted to the trollimg motor , do you . If so it will basically reset on the screen everytime you move the motor . Just a thought .

Scroll speed(U call chart) should never be on ten??? Chart speed should be set between 2 to 4 MAX. Actually if U going 2 mph taking Si picts then speed should be on 2. I keep mine on 3 most of time when going 2-4 mph. If trolling at 1 mph then I lower speed to 1 or 2 by looking at the images to get clearest picts.

I usually set mine 2 over the speed I'm going

when I'm trolling around pulling cranks of checking out a location to see whats there. Just remember that if you're running the chart speed slower, what you see on that chart is further behind you than it would be if the chart was faster. Yeh, you'll get a clearer image but it's further behind you in real time. If you're not marking a waypoint and trying to refind it when you turn around, it'll be tougher to locate it again if you're looking at a certain stump or something visual to re find it. I pull cranks at 1.8 to 2.2 MPH and leave my chart speed at about 4 or 5 and get a very clear pic. It is awesome though when you have someone in the boat with ya and you see a fish on the DI below you and tell them to watch a certain rod, it's fixing to get a hook up and it does!!!
