... I did go fishing. Went to Cedar Creek & fished from daylight til about 930A ... caught some Bluegill (c&r), but no size/numbers. Came home & went to the Golden Corral & tore up some bb ribs. That was "my" holiday celebration :) (well, that & sleeping way too much :p )
... cp
Id say a lot of it has to do with the high water... this morn will be first day out since big rains for me. Memorial weekend boat traffic im sure was outstanding and kept a few fisherman at the house......I wish the tight lips were from good fishin.
Most of us local regulars avoid the big lakes like the plague on weekends and especially holiday weekends. We leave them to the lake lice (as Wiskers calls them).
As I came in from fishing on friday 3 HUGE boats steamed past me headed to the bay I'd just left! Nice wakes when they come from different angles.:eek: That's why I stay off the lake on holidays.
MRDux....I'll call ya today around 2.
I left Taylorsville a little before noon today. I caught 74 bluegill. If you've fished Taylorsville you know the bluegill are nothing to write home about but I did catch a few that were bigger than usual.
The lake was probably at about summer pool but there was still some small debris floating around.
A young soldier drowned the other day on the other side of the lake from where I was fishing and the fire department truck was still in the parking lot so I'm assuming that they still haven't found the body. My friend's son drowned there about a year ago and he still hasn't recovered from his loss.
Back from a morning at the Cave, Put in at Warix. Caught around 35 give or take a few and brought home 13 i think. Had one really nice male white crappie that was 16 in and stocky fish, nice for cave run. Had some good looking spawned out black crappie around 12 inches and couple good white crappie, and a few 9-10 inch fish to make a mess for my buddy. Mix of white and back crappie. Caught mostly on minnows on slip bobber, couple on jigs and baby shads. Fished main lake, 10 ft water 3-5 ft deep on brush. Water was warm. Filleted and gave him a decent mess, had to gripe at his wife cuz she wont eat em' and he loves fish. I have some pictures on the way, have to get em through e-mail though, I cleaned em at his house.
BTW..thats bad new Darnclem
I stay away from the water on weekends like these as well, sometimes even regular summer weekends. At times it seems like it is just dangerous. Just wanted to see if anyone was catching anything. Thanks for the replies. Thinking about trying Green out for the first time since the great flood.
Good Luck.
I hear ya on the weekend traffic memorial day on. Better get out early before the lice get up or start night fishing if ya dont want to have a "tourrets moment" on the water. By 9:30 yesterday at Cave Run the jet ski's were buzzing all over coves with HUGE standing trees about 6 inches under the water. I guess they think that only the trees that stick 20 ft out of the water are the only ones in the lake. I try to work weekends and get a day off on monday-thursday to fish in the summer. Gotta go when ya can though. :)
I went a couple days last week before the holiday weekend. 19 on Wed. & 12 on Fri. All small crappie now. I caught everything though, cats, bass, bluegill, stripers & rockbass. Sure beats work.
I went to EFL yesterday, Tues. Crappie fished. Caught around 10 crappie, 4 keepers, 1-13", 2-12" and 11". All caught on black/chartreuse 1/16 jigs jigging around vertical structure in 8-15' of water.
All were females and had eggs in them, June 1st and still spawning??? We also caught one bass, several small gills and a channel cat. We didn't have minnows. Should have been there about 2-3 weeks ago. Oh well, at least I got out for a while. We fished from 10-2:30.

Heres a pic of couple of those cave run fish.
Those are some good ones for sure.
I was pleasantly surprized when I fished last Sat. and Sunday. I started at daylight and was ready to quit from the heat when I finally started seeing the pleasure boaters/water lice start up around 10AM. Both days I had the lake practically to myself and was catching a good many fish. There were only a couple trucks/trailers at most in the parking lot on both mornings.;):)
Nate, those are some fine slabs! you may have mentioned it already, but how were you catching them? single pole jigging, sprider rigging or pulling?
My son and I ran up to Lake Malone yesterday afternoon. Dodged thunderstorms on the way up, but weather turned out pretty nice, but very hot, once we got on the water. This was a bluegill/ go-devil trip. We had fun and made it competitive. Harrison and his fly rod against me and the "Shelton" bug tipped with a wax worm. We had a race to 40, and he ended up beating me by one fish. Caught an assortment of bluegill, bass and catfish. I believe I enjoyed watching Harrison working that fly-rod as much as I did catching fish. He is very good with one. (Sure didn't take after me in that category)
We ran a go-devil for some green carp after dark and I landed one nice bass. I'm almost ashamed to post it here. Can't wait to make another crankbait trip for crappie.
All and all it was a fun trip, during the heat of the summer I tend to become an equal opportunity fisherman.

We finally got to go out friday for the first time since the great flood. Ended up with 33 keepers. Had the lake to ourselves from daylight until about 11, but it surprisingly was still not to bad. Loaded up around 1, bad looking storm was a commin'.
Bluegill and redear still fairly shallow today on crickets!
Hey brad, I caught em single pole fishin with slip bobbers/miiows and jigs. They were fairly shallow by cave run standards, 5' down in 10-12. Was my 1 st time out since the monsoons and didnt know what to do. Scanned a bunch of water with SI and gonna go back and try to get em sp riggin or pulling cuz theyre in the right places. Wish there was a good bluegill/cracker lake here close. I heard malone has some double digit bass in it, thats a good one you got there.
Stnsbury...Thats a good day after being off the water for a while. How does green look? You spider riggin to get those fish?
Caught 3 keepers spider rigging caught the rest casting at brush under bobbers. Green looks pretty good, but still some logs floating around. These hit and miss showers might muddy it back up. We get 1/2 inch of rain at my house and a buddy 10 minutes away gets almost 2 inches.
Almost time to start chasin redear.
Got on the lake at 6:00am. Immediately started fishing behind boats on every bank. Started catching crappie on every cast. The problem was they were all 5-7". Black and chartreuse jigs was the ticket. Managed only 3 keepers around 10". I am guessing we caught 100 easily. We didn't have minnows. Started fishing for bass, caught 7 keepers, best 5 would go 11lbs. Big fish 4lbs. caught on jigs and worms. Also caught a nice channel cat on crappie jig, 15" and a couple of bluegill. Got off the lake around 2:30 just before all the storms hit. I need to find the bigger crappie in this lake. I know they are in there but you have to get throught the little ones first.

Look deeper, I've been doing much better the last 3 weeks for bigger fish. Most of these fish are coming out of 10'-15' of water. Most are on drop offs, if there is some brush its even better. Lately I've found them suspended 6' deep over 15' of water. Also, the last 2 weeks I've been seeing alot of fish scattered over flats. I suspected these were crappie so I tried trolling and sure enough I caught a few. I'm really not into trolling so I didn't do it for too long. I hope this helps, good luck.
What you suggested is how I caught 5 good ones last Tues at EFL. Fished in 14-25'. Started jigging off the bottom and slowly worked the jig up vertically.
Most were caught off the bottom. Didn't catch huge bunches but what I caught were 2-13" a couple of 12" and 11"ers.
Thanks for the suggestions. They work, fish deeper on the break.

Luck more than anything.
Just Wondering Are Misqtoes As Bad As They Were Two Weeks Ago? They Were Terrible Then.
