these were fun to make
Those look cool but I am at a loss for what you would fish for with them...vertical jigging for suspended crappie? Never fished with a spoon.
Those look good. :)Never used mini spoons, are they used jigging like the bigger spoons or another way of working em.
you did a good job or those in Indiana double 00 blades did you use vinyl paint or did you powder coat them.
size 0 ....vinyl paint.....Im gona use them to chase bull bluegill, war mouth, and rock bass...alot of guys use them for ice jigs. and tip them with spikes, wax worms, or mill worms...i made 12 different colors..I want to try them for trout when the time comes....
here is a few more
and the rest of them.. the blue gill i hope tear these up...
ive caught 3 crappie this year....whats funny is i tie the crappie jigs everyone catches them on them, but i dont fish for them...Catfish and trout is my passion fish..The bluegill we catch that we dont eat go to the catfish.lol
Nice Ice blades!!!!!!!!!! That's what the Ice fishing guys up here in Vermont call em. The trout should hit them too
Fatman
yeah took me forever to get solder to stick
How about a slip ring to tie to.I'de be worried that if something bigger grabbed it,Well you know what, lol.
im going to put a o ring on them.....in the morning going to try a barrel swivel with a 1 ft leader...to see how they work
They'll work just fine.Looking good.
the soldiering took me forever to get it down..still kinda sloppy nut practice will get it better
Would a dab of jb weld work? I would think it would be easier than trying to solder it.
tried it it just didnt hold it tight. it would still move around
that one with all the glitter green paint blue server colors there are where did you get that type of glitter. we would like to try some of that in our plastic baits. those are some cool looking colors that you have and I'm sure that they are going to catch fish. we used to make them up with Willow leaf blades we used a 0 and 00 when we made them they worked extremely well jigging for crappie. we used to top them off either with the piece of marabou or feathers on the tail. have you tried to tie feathers on them yet. Do you remember the PIP and it was real popular in the 50s and 60s.
u got a PM bob
How about a pic from the back side. Those look like fish catchers for sure. Where did you get that type of sparkle glitter.
You have to make sure you flux your spoon shell and use GOLD hooks! They will solder to the proper shell in under 1 seconds. This is an example of what I did. Feel free to use the technique I use. I also do not call mine (Mini Spoons) by that name because I believe Crappie Day has that name trademarked. I have called mine by the generic name of Pinmins when I was in Ohio or just teardrops now. They do work well icefishing or in fresh water fishing.
Getting ready
Once I get my tools rounded up I like to plug in my soldering iron and let it heat up while prepping my materials. First things first, the tip of the soldering gets hot - up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit, so don't touch it. If you're using a new soldering iron you will want to put a small amount of solder on the tip of the hot iron before you start working. This is called tinning the iron and you only have to do it with a new iron. Once you start using it will usually have some solder on it already and be ready to go.
HOW TO SOLDER
Soldering is defined as "the joining of metals by a fusion of alloys which have relatively low melting points". In other words, you use a metal that has a low melting point to adhere the surfaces to be soldered together. Soldering is more like gluing with molten metal than anything else. Heat your soldering iron. Wipe the tip clean on the damp sponge to remove oxidation.
1) flux the shell and the gold hook
2) use a Rosin solder .032 diameter
3) solder your work
4) Use a thinner or solvent to remove excess solder
5) paint
Ice blades are usually soldered to (gold) hooks. Bronze hooks will NOT solder unless you scrape the finish off.
Soldering is nearly instantaneous, if the solder doesn't flow around the work in 1/4 of a second then something is wrong and you need to start over again.
Remember that when soldering, the rosin in the solder releases fumes. These fumes are harmful to your eyes and lungs. Therefore, always work in a well ventilated area. Hot solder is also dangerous. Be sure not to let is splash around because it will burn you almost instantly. Eye protection is also advised.

Take care. hope this helped some.
i made mine to fish with me and my buddies. they arent for sale. as for a name i havent named them yet...
Is there still enough room at the back to add hackle to it if wanted...
yeah i can make themwith a little more hook shank exposed so hackle or bou could be added
Just add a minnow and the crappie will tear them up!!
lol....just today got them perfected.
Those look good PBUG
thanks guys. seen these on ebay and wanted to make some....another thing to spend money on lol
How about either using a longer hook or repositioning it when you solder. I also added some split rings to tie your line to. Here is a quick example.

the split rings i am adding. and the hooks ive set them back also...again ship thanks for the input...
I've been making Pinmins for over 45 years.
I am glad others have learned a little from me. I have learned a lot from others on this site. C.C is supposed to be a teaching site anyway.
They work quite well. Take care my friend.
ill post when i get the paint dry
I really need a photoshop or a better camera...but you got the idea correct.
nice ship....a few years ago i bought a johnson spoon it was really tiny, and it had a small white feather on it. i tore up some crappie and monster blue gill...
snake and ship thanks for the pointers everything you 2 have told me has been taken into consideration and it has made these easier to produce,,, now if the split rings were easier lol thanks fellers
I use a tiny eyeglass screwdriver. Pry open the split ring with a fingernail, insert the screwdriver, wind on the blade. .....or you could go buy some split ring pliers from Cabelas.
Glad you are having fun. Did they dry yet? We would like to see your newest efforts. Take care.
