I will be surprised if that law is enforced! I think it will be what ever mood the lake patrol is in?
Hmmm, let me see; The terrorists might choose to attack a bridge in Oklahoma rather than a subway, tunnel, sky-scraper, Wall Street, or Times Square in NYC?
Doesn't it say "anchored or tied"? We need I-pilots with stop-lock:)
The lake patrol better get two tcket books with two or three pens under the bridges on memorial day and July 4th! Because there will be people fishing under those bridges!
I wouldn't mind so much if they do enforce the rule under the bridges. I get a little bothered when people pull up under the bridge and throw an anchor up on the rocks then back out 30 feet off the bank and drop another anchor. They take up a huge amount of space and disrupt everyone trying to troll. One guy is no big deal but sometimes when the fishing is good the whole bridge gets filled with them.
I tarpon fished in Tampa Bay a few times and it was interesting to see the boat etiquette there. The tarpon were on a flat in a pass and there were 75 to 100 boats fishing them on that flat. No one anchored up in the fishing area ever. Each boat would start at the west end of the fishing area and drift with the current to the east. Once you were through the area you would go out to deep water and go around the fishing area back to the west and start all over again. Everyone did it this way and there were rarely an issues even when boats were very close to each other. I wish it were like that here.
Sorry for the rant.
Excellant point meatdragger!
They will need to put a sign up on the piers otherwise they will be writing tickets every single day.
I do most my under the bridge fishing during the night. My deal with the bridge issue is are they going to ban the people walking down and fishing under them? There is no difference to me. A guy carrying a 5 gallon bucket couldn't he have explosives?
We'll have to see how they choose to enforce it, but, yes, the way the Federal law is written, even those fishing from the banks under the bridges would be in violation. Since the Lake Patrol primarily deal with violations on the water, they may choose to only enforce that part, and have land personnel (OHP, county sheriff) enforce from land. Big waste of time and resources IMO. To me, having people fishing under the bridges would be a major deterrent to terrorism in those locations.
Gman
Who would have thought that terrorism even affects fishing.
Since they are calling in HOMEland security doesn't the Make My Day Law come into effect? Why don't they put that under the guidlines and if we see some guy tying up some explosives, we just protect our home and shoot the guy straight in his A$$. Then tie him upside down from the bridge until he bleeds out.
Hmmmmmmmm, hanging him upside down to bleed out, would that be considered chumming?????
wow...i can see the concern somewhere else....but have a little discretion on these laws... i can tell you right now....the good ole eufaula boys aren't gonna let some terrorist blow up one of our favorite fishing spots!!!....but on the other hand...never thought one of our own would blow up a building in OKC either...hhhhmmmm...not sure what to think about this one?
those guys fishing from the bank aren't tied to anything....and they are going to take their favorite fishing spots from them too....I actually don't fish under bridges much...but I know others have been doing it for years...
whats next....no fishing within a thousand feet of roads and bridges?
Do you think this thing has gotten way out of control? We seem to be a country running scared and that is not what our ancestors fought for.
IMO, we are too politically correct to get anything done with these guys. We have the power to wipe these guys out but we are too careful about getting other foreign countries innocent citizens hurt or killed. Instead, we try to tip toe around and nit pick the bad guys out. I dont like innocent people being killed either but unfortunately that is what happens in war, its either them or us. I think we would have taken a different approach say 50 years ago, the consequences for the countries that are harboring terrorists would be much greater. And the leader of Iran would have been dead or captured a long time ago. I am only 30 but I can definetely see how times have changed.
Depends on who you listen to whether it was one of our own or not...just sayin...
I saw a poll somewhere that was taken recently. Basically it asked if you would be willig to give up some of your rights for increased safety from terrorism. A majoritysaid they were willing or believed they would have to give up someof their rights to be protected from terrorism. That kinda floored me. People don't appreciate what rights they have and they're willing to crap them away in the name of security.
Not only is that sad, it's plain wrong but the Progressives and Liberals are trying to to take advantage of it at every opportunity.
If Harry S Truman was still president the problems would probably have already been solved and we could fish under any bridge in the USA without any problem.
There was no shortage of people tying up under the bridges this weekend on Eufaula. I don't think the lake patrol will be enforcing this law.
What happened on Memorial Day weekend? Anyone know of any tickets written?
We quit fishing under the bridges because the regulations manual said it would be a swift and severe punishment. Whatever that means!
Obviously those people who came up with this law are fishermen. They use this law to run everyone off so they can have them all to their self!
:DI think you may have solved the mystery of our crumbling bridges here in Oklahoma Stink! It's not that the bridges are in disrepair, it's the terrorists blowing holes in them with tiny bombs!
looks like the lake patrol had better things to do than run off normal american families just trying to catch some fish in the shade. I saw lots of boats tied off at the hwy 9 and 69 bridges....lake patrol just slowed down, waved, and went on!
Meatdragger,
Small holes?? That bridge in Tulsa has holes the size of a twin mattress when it crumbled. Twice that happened. Disfunction junction near Catoosa. Now they are fixing it.
