They sell crawfish traps at some wal-marts and cheese works well for bait, or you can use a fish head. We used to catch them in small drainage creeks.
Are you going to eat these crawfish or use them for bait?
drainage creeks and fish heads are number 1....weve had alot crawdaddys for dinner...Has anyone noticed the taste difference between soft shells and hard shells
Crawdads are easy to trap. Take a can of cheap dog food and punch it full of holes with a "church key" and put it in the trap. Drop the trap in a drainage ditch or a cattle watering pond that would be too small to hold many fish and check it the next morning. You'l know real quick if you have any mudbugs. Fishheads will work too
Well thanx for the info i put a trap out this morning in a small creek by the office to see what will turn up.
We shall see says the blind man. Next I guess I'll start catching snakes:eek:.
Okay maybe not snakes or maybe ?????
Yall be blessed going to the g in the morning will let ya know.
mighty i caught a nice snake this morning on a bream lol. We use to catch some huge crawdads when I was a kid. The almost looked liek small lobsters. I have not caught any in 20 years though.
Sorry to bring up this old thread, but I was wondering if anybody had an update or pics on how the trapping went?
I am also curious to how this turned out!!
The trapping did not work but I did find their hide out off county line rd. i think it is called black swamp. Every time I go it is only little ones but maybe i will try it again in march.
Shell crackers love the small one's.Fag an springs going up Bank Head toward Monsanto mt. has plenty of craw dad's I used to catch hundred's is a kid.Pin Hook creek is another great place to catch bait and craw dads.
I want to catch big ones to eat lol I've seen videos on youtube where they catch them in lakes, even in fairly deep water with traps, do the lakes around here not have any?!
Mighty, could you PM me on here please? I can't figure out how to for the life of me!!
Aldredge creek used to hold a lot of crawdads but you gotta watch the weather. The traps will be swept away quick. Look at youtube as well for traps. 8yo kids all over YouTube w plans and designs. I use sardines.... Never had a prob. Close to Athens????? There's a drainage creek that runs thru Athens that holds many as well from what I've heard
Y'all are making me want a mess of crawfish
Have to run over to off the boat in ft Payne and get a pile of them
I know we have had luck on the refuge when they start to drain the fields. There's a drainage ditch that you can go in there and load up if you catch it right. We always watched for the first full moon in either may or June I can't remember it's been awhile.
How do yall catch them? If you use traps, what kind and what bait is best?
They are so thick in there that you just can walk the bank and use a net a scoop them right up!! Some may not believe me but I remember when I was younger they would be so thick it would like like the bottom of the ditch was moving if that makes any sense haha
Thanks!
