We believe this may be a timber rattler. Brother took pic outside linton bay on the channel. His wife wouldn't let him get close enough to kill it. So it is the one that got away.

That's what it is. I have two of them in my freezer at the studio to mount that were roadkilled near Barkley.
Actually they are a beautiful snake and probably less of a threat than a copperhead or cottonmouth.
There was a ton of snakes on the lake just got back after a week of fishin they where every where.
Yikes!!!!
I'm ONLY scared of 5 kinds of snakes....big 'uns , little 'uns , live 'uns , dead 'uns , and anything that resembles a snake...!!

One good way to keep me off of that lake for awhile! That looks like a big one.

There seems to be a lot of snakes around both KY Lake, and Barkely lake.
Over on KY Lake there are snakes that will come right up to your boat, and look up at you.
We had 3 or 4 snakes at one time do that last summer in the Blood River. They were not rattlesnakes but it was still intimidating to have snakes trying to crawl into your boat.
It is a bit crazy when you are fishing out the side of the boat and a snake pops his head out . Back of Malcolm creek is loaded with those snakes. And HUGE turtles...one looked like an old army helmet!
Precisely why I broke down and got me my first boat ever after fishing off the bank for the last 38 yrs. Been fishing on Salem lake in Hodgenville and other places and I've been encountering snakes and tics out the @ss.
