Kip tail how to use?

Ordered a bunch of kip tail from crazy angler and I am having a heck of a time with this stuff. Seems like half of what I cut off ends up on the floor. Tried cutting little bit off at a time and tried cutting large amout off at a time and still drop half of what I cut off. Do you guys start at the tip of the tail and work back towards the base OR start at the base and work towards the tip of the tail?
I do like it alot, seems the gills do to :D and bass too. Lost a good 5lber or soo :( the other night. Hooked up on him with a white 1/64 head, minnow chenille, and white kip tail with polar flash . Owell hope he injoys the jig he stole :rolleyes:

I start at the end of tail and pinch what I need between my thumb and fore-finger then I roll the hair between thumb and fore-finger to tighten it up and cut close to the tail bone.I then use a hair stacker to get the cut hairs even!

First thing I do is cut the curled end off the tail and toss it. I start cutting at the tip end. Maybe you are trying to cut off too much at a time. I pinch off what I think I will need and twist it. Pull up kind of hard before you use the scissors. It is really hard to explain but you will get it before long. Here is a video that may help some.

Grab what you want in between your fingers,then roll the tail so that the pinched hair is tight at the bottom next to the bone,one turn is usually all it takes,then cut it close to the bone with scissors.All the hair is at the same length at the bottom,I usually snip it flush then tie right away.Depends on how long I want the hair as to where I grab it.

I cut the tail in peices with a side cutter, makes it easier to handle. select a bunch of hair that is slightly larger than what you will need for the jig. cut it off close to the bone, and hold it tight while pulling some fuzz away from the butt end. I remove any wild hairs too, and then lay the untrimmed bunch on the hook and tie it on. then I trim the butt ends with a razor blade, using the leadhead as a backstop, take some thin super glue and touch it to the butt ends before wrapping over them. everyone has their own way tho.

I use a mustache comb to get out the fluff if there is any. Some types of fur/hair has a lot more than others and sometimes need other tools for that.

Hey I just pinch it as close to the hide that I can and cut a nice size piece, maybe a little smaller than a pencil would be. Then I may try easy tapping it on the ends to get close together as I can and then cut neat and tie it on. It will take a bit of practice. I do adjust it much though and if I need to then I too go to the packer to make it better. However I would say I only need to use that one in every 8-10, something like that. Start off with easy wraps and tighten as you get more and more thread on. Maybe it will help it from twisting on the hook, but if it does just stop and twist it back in place before more wraps.

I find with using the kip,I first seat my thread on the hook,then take a swipe or two with clear cheap fingernail polish,then put the hair on,a couple wraps to keep it there,then make them TIGHT,I even swipe it again with the fingernail polish,makes a very tight,durable jig.

alslabber I should have said the first thing is to make sure that he gets a good thread wrap on the shank before trying to tie the hair. So thanks for saying that.

You will have a better jig leaving them uneven at the end of the hook.
