Howdy Y'all,
Its been a while. I am thinking 1/48 or 1/64 oz head. need some ideas for something that has good motion with little effort for a slow presentation. I have been using Sliders fished slow enough to just get the tail to wiggle. I would like to tie up a few in some different colors to see if I can catch them on something I tied.
Oh, BTW, no sinkin' ants please, I have more that a few of those:D. Come on, get creative, Lets see what ya got!:cool:

I've caught a fair number of gills on an 1/80-oz black jig head with brown rabbit tail and brown chenille body with gold tinsel rib.
For gills, I like "buggy" looking stuff.
I like 1/180 and 1/100 kiptail jigs for bream.
How do you get a jig that small to drop? My line would be floatin' on the water.Quote:

I like dipping 'em with a cane pole or putting them under a small bobber.
I'll have to try that... I use 1/80th grizzly jigs and sometimes get a little mad at em'! I always thought of the split shot but now that I think about it the weight above it wouldnt affect the fall rate.Quote:

I'd go with a wooly bugger jig as well. 1/64 on a #8 sickle in dark colors.Sometimes I have to bounce them on the surface a couple of times to get them to sink but the slow fall is killer with the gills.For faster sinks i tie my hackle more sparse,less hackle wraps orgive it more weight with lead wire.
All good choices !! I often use a small weighted bobber instead of split shot. Jungles booger is an awesome choice as well. I use these with tiny trout fishing strike indicators. Much like a bobber but teeny size. A bit of added weight for casting.
I would try some of these kiptail jigs from Jiggin Joe's Hand Tied Jigs . I have been using them for over a year now and have to say they are the best hand tied jigs I have ever used. He has them from 1/100oz to 1/16oz. I use them out here in Wyoming for everything from bluegills and other panfish to largemouth bass and big trout. Yes I said trout:) If you can't catch it on a kiptails from jigginjoes then theres nothing in the lake or river.
Here are some catches off of joes kiptails All most all of these catches are off a 1/80 jig. The trout are tuff on jigs with big teeth but I havent had a single kiptail from joes come apart on me and with 20 trout between 17" and 24" thats amazing Im still using that same jig plus the other cool jigs I bought from JigginJoe. Oh and dont forget to try some of his small panfish plastics they work great for panfish and anything else I have thrown them at to. I usually use 2 jigs under the ice or under a bobber one kiptail and one plastic and its FISH ON try some today you wont be disappointed.

Thanks Joe for selling great jigs they have improved my catching rate by dozens. I better go make me another order I can see some jigs I need to get for my fishing buddies birthday coming up.
have been working on some gill jigs lately also. Needing something to replace or work 50% as good as crickets:D I'm thinking on a long rod with a slip float these might work great over beds.

those are some nice looking jigs take the jig head off and your ready to do some fly fishing to.

i have been nailin hefty gills in beds on 1\80 jigs i tied under a tiny float.maybe just 7" or so under the float because its real shallow there.i don't seem to need any weight on the line to make the jig sink,the power pro i use seems to cut through the water easily and lets the jig get down.i got my 1\80 jigheads from jigginjoes too :)
