Finished with my first complete restoration of this 1960 Neptune Mighty Mite 1.7hp motor. It was a great project to pass the time this winter and now I only have 6 more to restore most are 1930's models. My wife thinks I have too many hobbies:confused: anyway here are some before and after pics.

Thanks guys, it sure was fun researching and hunting for parts to complete it. When I found it, there was no spark and the piston was stuck on it. I found a new coil and replaced the spark lead and broke the piston free, honed out the cylinder and it will now run. Check out the add for the motor it costs that much just to fishing for a day now:rolleyes:

Wow, that is too cool. Great job. I have an old 1956/57 7.5 hp Elgin outboard that my grandfather used to use, it hasn't been started in prolly 20 years or more. Seeing your good work makes me think it may be a fun project to get that old motor running and looking good again. Thanks for sharing.

Was way north country last year ran into a old motor swap meet. Picked up a mag,and if i can find it I RELAY IT TO YOU THEY HAVE ALL KINDS OF parts ect. sorry for these jumped lines dont know PC that well. I enjoy them also. Great motor.

Thanks all, my next motor to restore is this 1936 Thor single. Only about 12,000 were made before the company went under and was bought by what would become Mercury outboards.
After seeing what you did to the other one, I can't wait to see how this one turns out. Great work! :)
Mike, I gotta ask a big favor from ya. Can you restore this 52 year old body to look like it did when it was 21? One stipulation tho......it has to be a strictly HANDS OFF restoration.
I found the mag. The Antique Outboader is published quarterly by the Antique outboard motor club inc. e mail [email protected]. This is an old from 2006. I restored a 1969 Chrysler 6.6 and got here running like a champ. Then another thing broke, then another thing broke, then another thing broke.......It's sitting in Arkansas now waiting for my friend to fix the last thing that broke.
Finding parts was the hardest part.
Had to have a couple items machined by a buddy in wisconsin.

Gotta love those classic restorations. Yesterday at the gas station on 44 coming back from the lake, my daughter and I ran into a guy driving a black 1966 lincoln continental convertible with suicide doors. Amazing looking. It was at a pump adjacent to a newer corvette. God bless my daughter who said "I like that one better" (meaning the lincoln). :cool::cool: She's a chip off the ole big-block.
