Hi everyone. I'm a newbie. Just pretend that's a crappie I'm holding, okay? Looking for info on Dierks Lake. I'm planning on taking a buddy and his son camping and fishing there in the next few weeks and I'd like to put us on some crappie. Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Are you dead set on Dierks Lake. If so, Jerry Blakely is a guide out of Hot Springs that guides Greeson which is just down the road a bit. He may have a report or pattern for you on Dierks. I prefer Greeson because of the structure that guys have put in the lake over the past few years. I'm sure the crappie condos will produce fish up until hot weather comes in. It would be rod & reel fishing on Greeson. Just my thoughts. I will be on Greeson the middle of June for a week and plan to catch them early and late.
Dierks is full of crappie, the spawn will be over but you shouldn't have any trouble catching fish. The north half of the lake is covered with old standing trees. Drop a jig or minnow down beside these usually 5 to 8 feet deep and hold on. Small points between Bishop and Caney creek are usally a hot spot. Lots of creek channels and underwater humps to fish also. The locals all have brush piles placed throughout the lake as well, if you find on of these they are usally hold lots of fish as well. The corps has some brush marked by a blue and white sign on the banks. Take a light and try some night fishing on the humps or creek channels. Chart/White marabou jig, or Kalins grubs in wally world or tennessee shad are good colarsfor Dierks. Good luck.
Great info. Thanks guys. Not exactly sure of destination and dates, but leaning toward Dierks in mid to late May. Greeson is definitely on my list, but I don't think my fishing boat is quite enough for it and I haven't gotten around to putting a fish finder on my party barge yet. Thinking I'll need one to locate the condos etc. I really appreciate the responses. Try not to get blown away this weekend. :eek:
I fished Deirks today,managed a limit of 10 inchers nothing big but lots of small fish.All I caught or seen caught was around 11 to 12 feet deep in 45 to 50 feet of water.Vaught a 1/2 dozen gig gills to boot so was a good day to me.Good luck on your trip.
Seems like Dierks is the worst about catching small fish or catching slabs. We caught 24 one morning, 17 from the same top,all smalls, and went back that evening caught 14 slabs from that same top.Quote:

It's looking like early June will be our first opportunity to get down there. We'll definitely be prepared to do the night fishing thing, maybe some yo-yos (hope that's not a four letter word on here:eek:. I always mind my manners when using them). Wouldn't hurt my feelings to boat some big Bream too. Whatever happens I'm just looking forward to checking it out. Never been and I understand the camping is really nice.

So I've been trying to find out what I can about Dierks and it looks like it gets quite a bit of recreational boat traffic during summer. I'm wondering how much this will impact our fishing and whether we'll spend too much time dodging wakes in my flatbottom. I also have a pontoon boat but it's not really set up for fishing, especially the kind we'll want to do. So I'm wondering if Dierks is the best choice given the circumstances. I know there are plenty of other choices in and out of that part of the state. I'm just looking for something a little different than my usual Central Arkansas destinations, hopefully with good camping and fishing and not too much boat traffic. Is Dierks the ticket, or should we go somewhere else? Chime in please. Thanks again everyone.

Go to "Google Earth", zoom in on dierks lake. There is open water around jefferson to the dam. Each of the fingers off the main lake is full of trees and no one will be pleasure boating in those areas. I fish dierks in spring and fall, never fished it in the summer.
Went to Deirks today,Ended with 11 and biggest 16 1/2 inch 2 lb 5 Ozs caught them all in 53 to 57 ft of water 12 ft down.All on Jigs,Lauched at the Dam.
