Great fish, I caught two yesterday that were close to a pound according to my scales. That fish you caught is almost a wallhanger in my book.

man I can't wait for this weather to get gone and the weather to right.
Thats a big Shellcracker.
My personal best was last June on Lake Barkley. I caught a bull that was 1 pound 12 oz. I thought I had hooked a 5 pound catfish. I mounted it and won some awards with it. Every year I get to mount at least one locally over 2 pounds.
This is one of many from my trip to Ky lake last year.

Nice fish. One thing i`ve noticed posting pics is...they really don`t show how thick they are. Great catch there Chaunc.
chaunc, if you release the female redears in the future, please do it because you want to and not because of anything I said. I have always released the female redears but would not criticize somebody who decided to keep some. As a duck hunter, I occasionally shoot a hen mallard and don't lose sleep over it even though I try to not shoot hens. Obviously the biologists think taking females is not hurting the fishery. I started releasing females years ago when we first started catching redears and most folks weren't. Most folks who have fished with me over the years also release females, not because I said so--because they choose to.
When is your annual redear trip planned? I would love to hook up with you guys and buy you a bar-b-q. My buddies from PA are coming down this week to turkey hunt and have dibs on some. The lakes are headed up to around 370 (11 feet over normal pool) due to all the flooding south of us. It's probably going to make things interesting to say the least!
