Gene if you're going to the Southwest you will be OK. The Southeast might have a little problem depending on the wind and tides but then that depends on where you heading. Inshore fishing for reds and specks should be OK.

I concur with PPG -
Stay inside and away from the large coastal bays, especially east of the river.
The waves and natural weathering should have it busted up pretty good, but some of it will almost assuredly reach the coast.
Incidentally, the lawsuits from affected commercial fishermen who have not yet been affected have begun. Doncha just lovit?
Pete
You just know they will try to turn this into a political football. The supposed victims want the millions in cash, and those who will help the supposed victims want the cash to help the victims get the cash. And the "green" group want the money to stop the drilling and etc, etc, etc.
All in all the redfish, the trout and the shrimp swim under the water and won't be hurt much by what's happening on the surface. I've been here all my life and have seen the amounts of oil that used to be dumped into the waters here and never did it hurt the fishing to any large degree. The only thing I know of that really hurt fishing was a gill net. Before that, we use to count trout not by the limits of 10, 25, or 50 but by how many ice chest of trout we caught. That was during the busiest oil production in the coastal marshes of the 50's and 60's when oil dumping was rampant and not illegal. Storms, freezes, oil and any other of mother natures products have never done the fishing in. Oh yes, oil is a natural product, just like the fish, the crabs, the shrimp, the water, and the air. We have since learned to treat nature with much more respect to which I agree, but don't put to much faith in what you're seeing reported on the boob-tube. They all have an agenda it's not about the spill. Mother nature is bigger than and more capable than any one of us or all of us. Have faith in her, she will be around long after we're gone.
I step down now.

Mercy sakes, PPG, that was absolutely eloquent!
I agree with everything you said - and more. I've been there too - maybe not quite as long, but almost anyway, and seen both the elephant and the dragon. Fact is, I must admit to feeding my dragon on occasion in Black Bay.
But do you know what - it didn't stop me from eating those oysters!
Or the specks!
But that aside, your post was extremely well put. Thanks!
Pete
I agree PPG and SP. I think PPG aught to send that piece to all the lame stream media, magazines, and rags they call papers in the whole USA. (not like they would print it)
Hey J Row -
We ought to form a coalition - anti greedy suing commerical fishing bas....rds, pro oil-patch, and nuke the media! PPG for president! NO DEMOCRATS ALLOWED!
Well, no liberal Democrats, anyway! :D
Incidentally, have either of you seen any evidence of the sky falling?
The apocalypse? A shortage of gasoline? Nancy Pelosi resigning?
Neither me. Pass a good weekend anyway.
Pete
SP, you know what. I'd like to see all those crying bleeding heart liberals have the right to petroleum products (gas, Vaseline, plastic products and any other thing made from petroleum) taken away from them. Then lets see how hard they cry and moan about drilling for oil. Most of them don't even have a clue what all comes from oil.
No Condoms??!!
Gas come from the gas pump and Vaseline comes from the vending machine in the rest room along with the other plastic products they vend there. You ain't never going to make them believe that all that is connected to an oil rig. Oh and while you're mentioning products, how about that stuff they put in that plane that flies back and forth from California twice a week, it comes from a little red truck. The reason she has to fly our plane rather than a commercial one is that everyone is afraid to sit in the same room with her in case that over stretched skin pops, it gonna blow the plane up. OK OK, enough is enough I think we all know what's it's about, so just vote.
Anyway guys thanks for the support but I'll decline the nomination for now. I'm too busy furnishing pipe for the oilfields around the world. I have a vested interest. But if I did, it would be easy to make many things better. Just wipe off all the laws they put on the books in the last 65 years, that's when I was born and things were great then. Then write a comprehensive package of law for the Congress. (1.) All laws also apply to Congressmen. (2.) All Congressional raises must have the approval of the people by popular vote and won't take effect while current members are in office. (3.) Term limits to two 4 years terms. (4.) The Constitution is the law of the land. No back door deal and televise all meetings and hearings concerning laws or amendments.................man, why did y'all get me started.
Amen,

So if i head to big lake i should be alright. Are the crabs running yet? sure wouldn't mind some of them before i have to degrease them!!
Hey Paw Paw,
You know what is worse than being Nancy Pelosi?????? Being MR Pelosi.....Golly......how would you like to wake up with that ugly winch every day??????
So, how is the garden coming along? Or was that Doc who had the garden? Will be interested in how the "chili sauce" recipe I gave you turned out.
Roger "Redchamp"
Hey J Row, I don't care what the man says, we gotta have him!
Kangaroo Court, Railroad job, Filabuster - PPG for KING!
No Linda, you can't be queen - yet! Lady in Waiting, maybe.
Boiled crawfish and cold Bud Light for everyone at the reception (Except for Osama bin Bama and Nancy Pleosti. :D :D)
Pete
Actually, if either one of those demons could conjur up their leader in time to shift the spill's track to Mexico, I just might vote for them next time. Nothing personal PPG!
How 'bout you, J Row?
This thread got hijacked and can almost be considered political and a personal attack..
Gene, (Cain) If you are gonna fish big lake, you should be fine. probably even Cameron. I haven't heard anything yet about the crabs, but my neighbor was telling me earlier that this time last year they were catching them by the chest fulls over at Chenier, don't remember if it was Big or Little Chenier. And this is the same time of year that they seen 10 icechests of crabs caught below the Gibbstown bridge near the boat launch.
I'll take the king job if it comes the gold and jewels.
Ok guys I think we made our point to one another. Let's not go overboard on the politics and cause Johnny to lock or discard this thread. We've had our fun. Let just band together in prayer that a quick solution is found for the leaking oil and let's leave the politics out except to show our power at the poles.
"gene"
Johnny you just think and type faster than I. So your post showed up first.
I concur, and even agree. Let talk fishing.
"gene'
Gene..my brother Ken is an author and writes books about south La...he has one entltled Crawfish Mountain..it hits home on what you are saying...
I am a commercial fisherman, so before you post about greedy commercial fishing b's, you need to put yourself in their shoes. I am not saying they didn't jump the gun here, but do you realize how hard commercial fishing is? It takes a lot to support your family through fishing. These guys rely on the spring and fall season, which may be lost because of the spill. Not necessarily due to the oil killing the shrimp, but because the season will not be opened because of the spill.
Unlike farmers, fisherman can't insure their "crop", so if there is no season there is no money.

I think i am coming down on friday. i will have to double check with my boss(wife) to be sure she is okay with it. i am not sure if she will make it but i hope she does. i cant wait. i want to be in the south getting eaten by bugs and hangin with them there south buddies of ours.
Warren -
I sympathize with some commercial fishermen. I was once one - shrimping - and quit because I couldn't see well enough at night. My unfairly collective comments were brought about by the recent media interviews with guys I once knew in Buras and Venice - some of whom will sue at the drop of a hat or break every fishing law they think they can get away with.
I realize that all are not like those. Again, forgive my preemptive comments.
Pete
well they are saying there is no boat launching down there does that go for big lake or at the refuge for crabbing?
Gene, I wouldn't think it would effect Big Lake, here are a couple numbers that I have where you should be able to find out something.
John Robinette 337-491-2575
Theresa Cross 337-491-2585
Not sure if that is their direct line, or the office, but they should be able to tell you what you are wanting to know.
By the way redchamp, I haven't tried the "chili sauce" yet cuz the mators ain't ripe yet.
"gene"
Saline Gene, they just said on the news that they are closing fishing and launches from the mouth of the Mississippi River and east towards Florida. So I don't think Cameron and Rockafeller will be effected yet.
Cool deal johnny. I am trying to talk the wife into this weekend but I think it may have to be next weekend. Will you be able to hang out Johnny?
