Hi Jerry,
Thanks for the link....I plan on dropping some of these in the lakes I fish in my area..
Jeremy
Bye
A few weeks ago while we were cutting bamboo near some power lines a guy with the power company stopped by to warn us to be careful because bamboo is conductive and if it came in contact with one of the overhead lines while we were handling it that it would electrocute us. I new better than to let it touch the power lines but didn't know it was THAT conductive.
Don't know about bamboo , but last summer got a charge. I was up in a catalpa tree shak'n out worms. A limb hit a powerline! To say the least it opened my eyes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :eek:Quote:

Someone may have already asked this, but I can't find the answer.. So, how long should I wait to fish a bamboo condo. I dropped one today.
Hi,
I would try it as soon as you go back....I remember Jerry or Darryl saying that caught fish on condos that dropped within a week or so..I think?..I think if you dropped the bamboo in a good location...Crappie probably will be on it...Just depends on what depths the crappie are relating to..Your best bet is to drop the condos in different depths...So, you will be able to fish different depths all year around..
Jeremy
Thanks

This is a yes and no on the condutivity. When dead and dry the chance are much slimmer but when green, is contains moisture and moisture is very conductive.
Tim
fished the bamboo condo for a few hours this afternoon. NOTHING.
Hi Brad,
Don't give up on the bamboo condos....If it is spot where the crappie usually are in or relate to?....They will be on it..
Jeremy
Thanks
Bye
Hi Brad,
Drop as many as you can in different depths...Plus on points, drop offs and on creek channels etc..
Jeremy
Thanks
Bye
also having been around live power lines for more than 30 yr's on some lines the higher the voltage the farther it will jump or arch over to you or what ever you are holding..DONT MESS AROUND POWER LINESQuote:

Jeremy
Thanks

jcd,
19 ft. of water, bucket condo, about 10 to 12 ft. tall. I want to go back and fish it today, but may be tomorrow. I found a few more spots the other day for more bamboo condos. So I need to start making more.
Hi Brad,
Sounds pretty good...How wide do you think it is?...Give it a little I bet you catch fish off it..
Jeremy
Thanks
Bye
I'd say it is a good 10 ft. in dia. @ the top.Quote:

I'd say maybe 1-2 weeks for a condo to start holding fish. I fish with Jeremy(aka jcd) and we've been dropping beds like crazy. Too many lakes to choose from though. Alot of work, cutting and hauling then building.
Hi Brad,
Did you catch any off the boo?....
Jeremy
Thanks
Bye
caught 3 good ones on Saturday. Hope it will be better Friday. I need more condos out there.
Hi Brad,
That is a good start...Probably will get better...
Jeremy
Thanks
Bye
caught 3 tonight in about an hour. Big one was 15 inches. The bite was soft, so I miss a few. Not bad for a Rookie.
Hi Brad,
Nice looking crappie...If the bite is soft....You can try the slip bobber method...Sometimes, the crappie want the minnow more than a jig....Plus you can fish a couple rods at a time...Did you catch those off the boo?...Looks like they are starting pay off gradually..
Jeremy
Thanks
Bye
I fished two rods w/ slip corks... I fished a jig alittle, but no bites on it.
Hi brad, I have caught fish on condo the same day thet I put them in. I usually put in over 250 condos and stake beds a year, not all hold fish. I would estimate that 2 out of 10 will not be very good. You might have to try a different depth or current to get the fish to locate on your condos.
No bamboo in New york at least not where i live....
We use pine tree's
use PVC but know where you put them . fish finders have a hard time showing thwm up .i use a GPS . a good finder will show them with the sensitivity set high .any kind and color of pipe will work . some use black pipe .

NOW TO FIND A OPERATOR
Nice fish Brad Merry
I finally made my Bamboo Crappie Condo post into a page on my website with pictures and a couple more designs we've come up with.
Here's the link - http://www.actionfishingtrips.com/habitat.htm
Tomorrow I plan on sinking four of the tall bamboo condo's (12') in a marina boat slip. I plan on setting them on the botton in 24' deep water. Do you think I should hang some cedar or other trees above them or do the fish usually sit in the tops?
Also, I have located a good supply of bamboo. If I cut a lot of it at one time, how long can I keep it before sinking it. Don't want to ruin it.
Hey Ernest:
That should be a pretty good depth and I wouldn't think you would need or want anything over them - might make it hard to fish down to them. I hung some Bucket/Bamboo condos from a dock that was over deeper water. I drilled a hole through the bucket on each side where the handle was attached, ran a rope through both holes and then tied the tag end back to the main line above the bucket and tied the other end off to the dock. Now they can be raised or lowered for different times of year. We try to fish from just above the top of the bamboo to several feet down in the bamboo depending on the time of year and how aggressive the crappie are.
We try to use up the bamboo within a week of cutting it but it probably wouldn't hurt to go longer. It seems like the leaves help attract fish and by the time the leaves fall off there is plenty of algae growing on the limbs so I like to put the condos in the water before the leaves fall off but it probably isn't necessary.
You'll like fishing the boo - won't hardly loose any hooks. I'd check it within a day or two - you'll probably catch crappie off it the next day.
I make my bamboo stands just a little different than that, but i got some really good ideas from your story thanks for sharing
This is right on the money. You can catch Crappie right off of your condo 3 days after you drop them if they are in the right depth. I know the algae will take a while to build but it doesn't matter if they can relate to the structure right off the bat. Go fish 'em man!!!
How long does the bamboo last under the water.
As long as it stays under water it will last a long time. We have condos that have been in the water well over 5-years now and they still hold fish. After about 4-years we occasionally pull a small decaying branch up when we get hung up but it seems to stay flexible and in good shape for several years in Lake Greeson. Your mileage may very. :)
Thanks for the info..
sounds like a good idea
