This is probably a dumb question but I always notice on this board that most of the crappie fishing is related to Ky. and hardly any reports on Barkley. Is Ky. just a better crappie lake?

Probably not.
There are just a lot more places to stay on KY and it is easier to navigate without ripping your lower unit off.
The folks who are on fish on Barkley are probably more inclined to keep quiet about their success. I don't think there is as much OOSer traffic on Barkley due to the smaller numbers of resorts like qs said.
Whats OOSer?
Out Of Stater
There are alot of good place's to fish on Barkley Lake, for all species of fish. If you don't know where you are going you could end up with some serious damage to your lower unit even at summer pool. We fish over there 2 or 3 time's a year. But considering we only live about 10 minute's from Blood River it's really easy to fish that part of KY Lake.
Barkley is a dangerous lake. I don't think that there are as many black crappie in Barkley as in KY. The black crappie sort of lengthen out the season on KY.
Barkley is closer to me so that is where I usually head. Plus I know more spots on Barkley than KY.
As far as I'm concerned...I hope the OOSer's forever stay scared of Barkley's DANGEROUS navigating..;)
I fished Old Hickory northeast of Nashville about two weeks ago. I was cuttin out across the lake in the creek channel buoys and looked up and saw a huge rock. Only as I got closer it wasn't a rock. It turned out to be about three foot of the bow of a Carolina Skiff looking boat right out where a big creek arm dumps into the main lake. Old Hickory is alot like Barkley. Be in 20-40 foot of water and then BAM in less than a foot of water just barely outside the buoys.
I would assume Barkley Lake is a great place.
The lack of resorts and hotels on the lake is probably the reason that a lot of people don't go there.
A guy who lives down the street from me, says he actually prefers Barkley Lake. He always seems to catch a good amount of bass and crappie on Barkley Lake.
I switch over to Barkley a lot especially after the Lake Lice hit the water.
