I am planing a trip to Weiss this weekend and was wondering how the dock shooters are doing lately? :)
shot the docks in yellow creek and chestnut cove today....6 hours....4keepers,...gonna go to church house cove tomorrow to see if i can catch more than 4,but in my opinion,it is still a little early for prime post spawn dock shooting
Leaving in the morning for Weiss Lake. Staying at Bay Springs. Any Tips would be appreciated. My first time on Weiss.
I shot a few docks yesterday morning on Weiss caught between 30 to 40 with only 7 keepers! Only thing working for me was 1/16 lead head jig with Bobby Garland monkey milk! Hope this helps but if your fishin Weiss be prepared for a bunch of small crappie! Weiss has been hammered hard for years and sure aint what it used to be when I was growing up, but the fishing pressure seems to be dropping on the crappie this week as I was out 2 days on weiss and not nearly as many boats as has been over the past few weeks!
I fished Weiss yesterday (4/15), but I wasn't shooting docks. We were pulling jigs under floats on stump flats. Didn't get on the water till around 11am, and fished till about 6pm, so I missed the early morning bite and the late evening bite. Caught about 35-40, but all were small except maybe 6 or 7. I didn't keep any of them, but some of the bigger fish appeared to be spawned out females, and some were still fat with eggs.
fished weiss thur.,fri. sat. terrlble!! no one was catching any crappies. A few early and most people catching them at night under light using minnows.
Fished Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Only 10 keeper Crappie in 3 days. My Friends did about the same.We were told by most locals it's been a poor year so far.
I, being a local to weiss, would definitely agree that this has been a subpar year thus far.I guess I need to start long lining or something in the future because I am focused primarily on docks and rocks, which tends to be way shorter in duration than the overall migration of early spring.I also think that the long, much colder winter we had here in the south must have thrown a kink into the whole crappie way of doing things
Fished Weiss Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and didnt catch huge numbers but what I caught was mostly slabs. Will be back Thurs. and Friday to fish but who knows after all the rain we are to get this weekend. Here is a link to fish caught on Wed.

Weather forecast for severe storms tomorrow with tornadoes possible... I won't be on the water, I'll wait 'til Sunday and hit Logan while folks are watchin' the race.
The most of the crappie have spawned out, a few are still with eggs, but not many. The fish are stressed out right now and taking a rest. The crappie should start biting agin under docks soon, some docks are starting to produce a little now. Also, try pushing minnows in 10 to 14 of water around structure, or try bottom bouncing the creek channels. ;)
good to see you back pop, you were mentioning the docks are starting to produce , are the docks the deeper ones or the shallower ones
Best docks are the ones with 6 to 12 ft. of water near main creek ledges.
About mid-way from front to back of coves and creeks. Bite is light - watch your line and let jig sink to bottom.
The bite has been very light on Guntersville also this year, in the past, they slapped it. My ultralite 7ft. rod has been very successful though.
