I will be coming to BIG BEAR april 11th thru april 17th. Was wondering if any of you familiar with that area on kentucky lake could give me some pointers? This is the second year we will make the trip. Last year we came at the end of march and were a bit early but we had a wonderful time and enjoyed the wonderful hospitality. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
It is a very crowded area this time of year. I like to fish south of U.S 68 to avoid most of the boaters.
I actually like to fish in the Tennessee part of KY Lake, because there is way less boaters, and the fish are less pressured.
Try fishing south of U.S 68. Blood River, Cypress Bay, and the Big Sandy area of KY Lake are all great places.

Just got back from there and KY Lake is right. Big Bear is very crowded. You'd better get out early and stay out! ood luck, the fishing ought to be good!!!
You keep saying that but something tells me that you must not fish that area much, if at all. Didn't you just move to Kentucky?Quote:

Fished Big Bear last week (will do a report tomorrow hopefully), caught very small numbers, they were scattered pretty bad. Water temp was 55 -63 by the end of our trip. Cooled off at nights, wind killed us. But this was last week, this week seems to be better, they aren't nesting, or at least weren't when we left, but I'd say they are getting close and getting right.
In other words, we shoulda waited a week or 2 before going.
Thanks HARLEYMAN. We went the week of march 23rd last year and ran into similar problems you just mentioned. We thought the second week of april might put us in better position to get our numbers. We are not very familiar with the lake yet so a spawn might be just what we need!

there are lots of good crappie spots in big bear,also lots of fishermen, Big Bear is a great resort, and great location,,I suspect by the 11th the crappie will be shallow if the cold front moves out by then and they dont mess with the water level too much,, you might hit it right,, this past weekend was very windy and hard to fish about anywhere!
if big bear is too crowded, and the fish are shallow go up north a few coves and try sledd creek area,,,

Big sandy is crowded, so are a lot of other places, but I actually fish way south of Big sandy.
I fish all the way down by New Johnsonville TN. I fish from Paris Landing State park, all the way south to Interstate 40 in Tennessee. That is what I have been doing for 37 years.
I'm from Illinois but my dad moved down to the Big Sandy/Paris area after he retired. I would visit and remember the fishing being wonderful in that area. He had to move back due to health reasons, but man I remember it being wonderful there. Unfortunately a few years ago his old neighbor drowned in that area so be careful.
Then you are not fishing in KY at all, even though you keep telling everybody to fish a certain area in KY both here and on other sites because it is less crowded.. at the northernmost point of where you are fishing, you are 30+ miles south of highway 68/80 and entirely in TN.Quote:
