boat/trailer checklist

Got a beater boat last week and am trying to get ready for the water.I read the other checklist and that helped.I'm trying to assemble spare parts to carry with me.

Trailer-
correct lug wrench(have spare tire and jack in the car)
2 spare bearings and grease
spare bulbs

Boat-
spare spark plugs and wrench
spray carb cleaner
extra drain plugs
spare prop and cotter/shear pin

what else?I usually carry duct tape/wire/toolbox/jumper cables and tow chain in the car,just looking for small items that I might need for simple on the road/water repairs.

rope/bungee cords and zip-strips might be good to throw in the toolbox.

Fuses, a blown on can strand you on the water
trailer bulbs, much cheaper than a ticket or worse an accident
I can't think of anything else though

Cook don't forget the prop wrench.

I always carry one of those portable battery jumpers. Just ask OSS they work great on jumping dead batteries in pickups at the ramp. I don't remember who he was fishing with but he found out just how handy it was to have one.

And I carry a set of wheel bearing seals also.

Fuses..Hmmm..not even sure the boat has any?Just a little pull start motor,trolling motor might have one somewhere

Just put in a cresent wrench that should work. I carry a couple of them plus one of those plastic floating prop wrenchs. After I drop the two cresent wrenchs into the depths at least I will still have a prop wrench.

You know this might be totally stupid Mr Cook. But when I had my little 9.9 Merc I always had a new starter rope taped up under the cover as a spare. Plus a new rope handle.

You might as well have a couple of seals for those hubs too. Heck, if you could find a spare hub,,, have the bearings packed and seal installed. I also carry a jump-start kit. Has flashing & work lights and a VERY handy air compressor. Shop towels and some hand cleaner will be a blessing. <*)}}}><

Crappie Chatt I already carry all of that too. My trailer has brakes on it and it is a special order hub!

Hey Cook, go to Walmart and get a trolling motor prop wrench. I don't know how many times I have wrapped my fishing line around the trolling motor shaft. And when I undo the prop I am always loosing that little pin that goes thru the shaft. And buddy its about the same size as some watch band pens and its hard to find even on just gravel. Most of those trolling motor prop wrenchs will have a couple of extra pins in the handle. When I got my first boat I had to end one fishing trip because I didn't have a extra pin with me.

road side insurance

Roadside insurance..I got AAA that I was asking about last month..guess I better call and see what it covers if I'm towing also...better check my car insurance also.

I'm kinda liking the idea of having 2 spare tires with hubs and bearings all set to go,be handy to just switch them out every year if not needed during the year..

not going to worry about the T.M. too much yet,I got a paddle :)


My "bargain" boat has about doubled in expenses already with all the paperwork,saftey devices,parts,etc.....am I a member of the money pit club yet? :)

Wait until you get an RV trailer to go along with that boat. Wife desides that she doesn't want the TV in the RV either sitting in a cabinet or on a table, she wants it mounted on the wall. Oh and yesterday she decides she wanted to replace all the foam weather stripping around the door. So she takes a piece off so she would get the right stuff at Lowes. Didn't want to work on it yesterday evening after she got back from getting it. So she goes out this morning in the rain and starts replacing it. Well what she purchased was the wrong size. So I just got back from the store with the right size.

Cook check your car or truck insurance as far as road service. I just got worried the other day with all the miles I am covering so I called my State Farm Insurance agent.

He said Boat trailer is covered for $500.00 in towing to a safe place. The RV trailer is covered for $650.00 in towing to a safe place.

Might not be a bad idea to have a couple of cans of Fix a flat.

All I can think of at the moment

Don't forget your throwable cushion and your paperwork on the boat to keep you legal. And your 2010 fishing license! :)

Don't forget the tp in a ziplock!!!!!!!

A pull behind trailer to store all this extra s--------tuff.

I purchased a new boat in March 2008 and I bet I have over $5,000 in either upgrades or additions to it since the day I purchased it.
