Any reports on Horseshoe Lake(Crittenden County), Midway, White Hall?
talked to some friends that did good on bar pits south of lake city on west side of river, but it was wed thurs and fri
Don't think you can fish Clear lake and straight lake anymore, all the others are slow.
I was surprised with an early bday gift by the wife. She bought me a plane ticket to fly to AR and fish with my dad for 3 days. I am so excited! We are going to try to stay close to Jonesboro so I can see other family at night.
I really home some of the black river bays pick up; those are about the only good places we know of. Dad's boat is dinky and we aren't set up to fish any lakes really. Visible structure is the best we can do and those bays are full of it.
The MSRiver will be in all the oxbows now. Midway and Whitehall are full of the river.
our trip is April 12-14th. I really hope you guys don't get much rain there between now and then. I don't want all our river oxbows and pits to be full, flowing, and muddy. If they are, we will have to fish Hogue, Poinsett, or drive further to Old Town I guess.
what do you think the oxbows like portia bay will be like after this rain? Going fishin sat just dont know if I need to go there or try to head to horseshoe or poinsett or somewhere else.
I'll be going past Portia Bay this morning, will let you know what it looks like tonight.
With the St. Francis at 21+' (st francis) and Black at 10+' (corning) I wish you luck in finding clear water in the pits or bays
According to the weather service forecast, Black River at Black Rock will be 13.1 feet by 7am tomorrow, so I would say it will be in the bays and lakes along Black River. Flood stage is 14 feet at Black Rock, but the River will be in those low lakes at a lower level.
If I was staying home on my vacation next week I would homestead Horseshoe. Ole Hudnut would be hard pressed to have any crappie to fish for.
Portia bay is muddy muddy, black river is out of its banks but isn't near as muddy as portia bay.
Burnt Cane is still muddy---yes, it is affected by the St. Francis. I drove out there yesterday. There were several boats, but according to the game warden, "They ain't bitin'"
Does anyone know at what depths the St. Francis starts getting into all the pits and lakes? Or does it differ with each one? I only have 2 days to fish and want to be on the best water possible 1st thing each day vs. driving from spot to spot to check water conditions.
Same ? for the Black River regarding the bays previously mentioned.
I know flood stage with either river will be into probably every lake, slough, and pit off the corresponding river, but just wondered if anyone had payed close enough attention through the years as to what river stage started affecting their favorite holes. If I had my high school days to do over, I would have kept a journal of all kinds of info like this when I use to fish almost every week. It sure would be helpful now.
I've kind of told myself that if the river is in the holes I fish that isn't necessarily bad unless it is rising fast and really muddy. I've fished Tucker and Sunshine off the BR when they were really high but with good water color and fairly stable level and done ok. Actually, in that situation fishing structure on the bank was better bc so much more stuff was in water with 2-3 ft of water under it. I may be off on that.
Excited to come home and fish with Dad for 2 days. Wish it was longer.
The St. Francis at Lakecity is really high. The river stage is above 7.5 feet and was really muddy the last time I crossed it. I would think the fishing would be pretty tough there.
Black is on the up until sunday, suppose to start dropping than but we have rain again think Saturaday.Shouldn't be a problem with more flooding just take it longer to go down.(hopefully) Everything will be normal by the 12th and you and dad can have your pick of bays or rivers. If not and things are high and muddy pull this thread back up and I'll remind your dad of a spot....boy or girl.
Heard a really good report from Mallard this morning, might look into makin a trip there with the rivers all jacked up.
Does any one catch crappie on Hogue? It sure looks fishy.
open to suggestions. it is looking like most of the places off the river we like to fish may be out next week for my trip home. Other than the lakes mentioned in this thread already, I'm open to suggestions for bodies of water not susceptible to the rivers flooding that have lots of shallow water (6 ft or less) structure to fish. Examples would be Old Town or Mallard. Any places out there like this that have stable unaffected water levels?
Take a look at Bear Creek Lake, in the St. Francis Forest near Marianna. It's pretty stable and produced some big crappie last weekend. I didn't go out--was fixing boat, but some fellows at the ramp had a bunch of slabs. They caught them on red and chartreuse jigs about 10 ft. from the bank. You can usually get out of the wind on that lake.
remember 10 horse limit
Just wondering if the rivers have gone down at all? Also, any of the bays and pits looking good or any good reports? Figure they are spawning now.
Black River is still way up, at least at Elgin.
Gonna get a report from two guys heading to Old Town this weekend. Hopefully Old Town, Mallard, or Ashbaugh will produce for us. Any idea what the water is like down at Maddox Bay? I would love to get back into some of those little lakes in a duck boat!
Portia should be fine by the time you get here. Haven't been back to Horner or shirey.
A friend fished it last thursday with no problems...bass.
Several nice days between now and when you get here. If I get by there I'll check it out but it should be fine.
Black River is still flooded big from Elgin on down.
Talked to a buddy in Marion last night and he said they were killin the crappie and big gills on horseshoe.
Got a good report on Old Town from a guy who fished Fri. Got a report today that Portia and Shirey Bay were really high but the water didn't look bad. We are going to hit one of the bays off the Black River tomorrow at day break. If we can't do anything tomorow, we are going to hit Old Town on Tues.
Any updates on any of the bays off the BR will be much appreciated. Might save me a trip if you guys know the fish are off there right now.
Fished Portia Bay yesterday. The crappie were small, and the gar were abundant.
You pretty much just described my 8 hrs on Portia today :)
I fished hard for 8 hrs from 7 to about 4:30. I fished jigs 1/8 and 1/32 tube jigs and road runner jigs. I used about 5 diff colors of tube jigs. Water was high; probably 7-8 ft of water on the bank side of many of the cypress trees. Water felt cold too. Clarity was good. After fishing almost every tree, stump, fall downs, and everything else in between I started trolling jigs. Caught some of the smallest crappie I've ever seen. Seriously, I caught a 2 inch long crappie today!
I caught only one crappie big enough to keep. Overall, I think I caught 10 or so crappie, a few good bream, a poly cat, and a lmbass.
Any updates on Old Town? We are considering heading there tomorrow.
Also got a great report from Horseshoe on Sat. 42 good crappie in 4 hrs. That is good fishing! I guess it is between Old Town and Horseshoe tomorrow.
Got the same kind of report, so headed down there this morning. Fished all day for two fish. Found a few on the beds, dropped every color under the sun at them, and think I shouldda took a treble hook, cause they wouldn't bite anything. Thats my luck.Lots of folks fishing, nobody that I talked to was catching anything to brag on. Tomorrow will be good, I gotta work.
I guess I'm headed to the shoe tomorrow. Were yall fishing the docks or the trees and pads.
