First, get a map. There are shallow spots away from shore when the lake is drawn down like it is now, and a lower unit is an expensive way to find them.
It's going to depend on the weather. Been cold, so I'd expect them to be deeper. I usually start at 12ft if I don't have any indication what they are doing in the spring. Minnows on a Kentucky rig and/or 16th oz jigs with black/chart or yellow grubs/tubes.
What part of the lake are you going to?
Here's the pink booby jig

We're goin over close to the dam.
Big Sandy area is very good for crappie, and bass.
There are a lot of good crappie over 1.5 pounds in this area.
I have caught hundreds of crappie in the Paris Landing State Park area, near highway 79
Good Luck.
Thats A line dance ain't it ???
What kind of line and how many lb test do you use for Kentucky Lake? Thanks for any help you can give me.
Casting = 4-6lb mono
Trolling = 8-10lb mono
Spider Rigging = 8-10lb mono
Bottom Bouncing/KY Lake Rig = 17-20lb main line / 8lb mono leader
Slip Float/Minnow in Buck Brush = 15-20lb main line / 8lb mono leader
But, that's just me :p I'm sure the guys that fish there alot will have different ideas. In reality, I've never trolled or Spider Rigged on those lakes, so I'm just speculating on the pound test lines for those methods. ;)
