i need help on finding some of best reels for shooting docks
I have been using Shimano 1000 Reels with the quick release for ten years and still use the same ones today. You can not beat the prices starting around $12.00. You will get a bunch of replys with everyones favorites. Good Luck.
Listen to Earl on this one, I lipped one of the biggest bass i ever seen that Earl had hooked shooting with this little bitty reel he's talkin about . Billy the Kid with a dock shooter he is :D.
i like pfleguer, presidents for just about anything
I'm with PBugs...Pfleguer (President) are hard to beat. I stared out using a spincast reel years ago. The trigger/button made it easier for me to learn how to shoot them docks!
Its all in what you get used to crappie little. I have big hands and therefor i need a reel that doesnt hug the rod when shooting docks.
I love the browning super lites. they come in different sizes (like a 250,500 and a 750. i use the 750 series to shoot docks with. they are very good reels, they have 10 ball bearings and are very reasonably priced. $25.00 at bass pro. i use the 500 series to troll with. the drag on these puppies are excellent also. But like i said its all in what you get used to. Good luck choosing and shooting!:)
i started out with a open face but i like the under trigger spin better .
with the open face ihad tangle line and forgit to flip the bale .with the undertriggerspin just pull and hold the trigger and let it go . what i am using now is a DAIWA US120XD. Bass pro had them on sale a while back and i got thea little cheaper.
A reel is a reel. The more you pay for the more features and benefits you get. A inexpensive reel with a good drag and a large spool is the key. The line will flow off a large spool better and wont twist as much. Get what ever you you like and can afford. This is crappie fishing not tarpon. If you fish often a Hi end reel has more bearings and will give you longer service.
I use the Abu Garcia Cardinal 101's, 5 bearings and they are as smooth as silk. Topped on my 5' Ugly Stik lite pro's, they will skip a long ways under those docks.
I like Mitchell reels for just about all of my crappie fishing, but as Earl said you're gonna get all kinda replys. Good luck.
Bass Pro in Macon ,GA has all of the "RECONDITIONED" reels marked way down this past weekend ( the lady at the counter said most of those reels were new but the packages were messed up , I took the tops off of them and they were new ) I bought 12 of them Pfluegers and Synergys trigger spins at 1/2 to 2/3 off. :)
I shoot with Shimano Spirex SR1000RG. Has the quick fire trigger and quick adjust drag on the bottom, both are huge for shooting docks. If your just starting out, get the spirex or the one Earl mentioned so you dont have the flip the bail. Flipping the bail will only slow you down so thats why I like the quick fire trigger shimanos.
