I finally got to go today. I caught a mess of good sized Crappie, a Green Carp (L M Bass) and a Buffalo. Man that Buffalo streched the line on my Buck's pole. Water temps were in the low 50's and the fish were starting to shallow up.

Glad they are starting to act right for you Nimrod. MAybe all this rain won't set them back.
Thanks for the info. I try to fish Nimrod as much as I can. Particularly during turkey season Nothing better. Gobbles in the morning and scales in the afternoon. Any word on when the COE is going to lower the lake? I tried to call them but no answer on the phone.

hey im in kentucky now but used to live on nimrod

Nimrod, can you not crappie fish while running your nets? Is it illegal? Not interested in running nets, just trying to learn
Thanks for the answer Nimrod, I figured it was something like that, I learn something new on here everyday it seems
Hey Nimrod,
Did you do good on them crappie eatin' ops this winter?
Kepping our mind occupied with the socialistic health plans so they can slip crap like this past us.
I guess I am going to be an outlaw. I will start carrying my guns in the boat. They have been left loaded at home because that is where I thought the DooDoo would start.

Nice!!!
The river was running between 60,000-100,000 all winter, so this was a below average winter for me. I did catch a few big ole razorback buffalo on my lines actually. 4 or 5 of 'em were close to 40lbs. Probably a couple dozen ops, but nothing over 15lbs. Enough to pay for license and gas and a cold beer or 2 here too.
Broke my motor about 2 weeks ago and getting it back today or tomorrow. I got guys ringing my phone off the hook needing fish. It's gonna be a good spring I believe.
We caught lots of Buffalo, just none much over 20 lbs. What kinda tackle you fish? What river you fishing? All I use are gill nets and pefer 4'' sq so little stuff and Crappie don't get hung in it too much. May put out some hoop nets this spring in Petit Jean River.
Lots of folks hate commercial fishing, but here the Buffalo and Carp would take over the lake, not to mention those Crappie eating Ops.:D
This is Jerry Dean from over on F B's hunting site. Well...I USED to be over there...lol.
I'm still running trotlines in the AR River. Got close to 800 hooks or so and a few slat traps out right now. I fished all winter in the river out of Palarm this year instead of Maumelle Park, but I've got everything out above Pine Bluff right now. I caught them big buffalo on 1 line in a 2 or 3 day span right after Christmas. Caught some big ole Spoonbills too. 30-40 lb'ers. Haven't caught a single bullalo since. I was on one of their runs I guess. They were some dandys!! Biggest I've ever seen in person.
I had a guy or 2 come in and set some weekend lines over my lines at Maumelle and caught them taking fish off my lines TWICE!! I ended up just picking up my stuff an moving up river to get away from them. My regular fish market (you know who I'm talking about) cut what he was paying me so I started letting a couple guys here in NLR sell on the street what I caught and am making twice what I was selling to the market for.
I'm still gonna try to get up there and get ya to guide me on a pole fishing/beer drinking trip. I ain't caught a fish, other than a bunch of bream for bait, on a pole in years!!
