2010 Spring Crappie Slayin Get Together ....

... will be held on Green River Lake ... April 10th .... with a cookout to follow.

My main concern is with the cookout ... as we will need to make sure that we'll have enough equipment/supplies to cook with (or enough people showing up to even bother :p )

we'll need to make sure that several people bring filet knives, too.

We should try and be at Holmes Bend Marina between 0730 & 0830AM ... meet & greet, launch boats, etc.

Myself, I plan on being there ... but, not sure how long I'll be able to stay.

If you voted for the 10th ... and/or you plan on attending .... post on this thread, and let us know how many people will be in your party. You might also want to let us know what you have, or are willing to bring for the cookout.

I hope you guys have a great time and I hope everyone that voted for that day shows up. Ifyou check with the other state boards they have put together meet and greets like this and had lots of fun. I'm working that day so I won't be there, but I will catch you guys at the next one. Have Fun and catch lots of fish.

Also need to know where a good place to stay,a place where I can charged my batterries overnight. I have never been there and it will take about 5hours or so to drive down. Probally go Friday and get some fishing in.

I'll let the locals tell you about where to stay & stuff. I ain't been down there in years :p ... and when I was, I was only at Holmes Bend a couple of times. I've mostly fished the dam to Robinson Creek area.

We'll put you down for Baked Beans. We'll have to wait & see what the others are planning on bringing, before we know what we'll be short on.

Pappy, if it's the 10th, I should be able to make it. I can bring my fish fryer, peanut oil and hushpuppies. Don't know if the wife will be able to make it or not and my son will be in Florida for spring break, so I'll probably have a seat to share with someone.

I may need that seat, if it's available :p .... still not sure if I'll be bringing a boat, or if I'll be coming down with my fishing partner & his boat. I'll know tomorrow, or at least I hope to know then. But, if the wife is coming, I'll hop a ride with someone (if no boat/partner).

Pappy, we've been threatening to fish Green together for the past few years, maybe we can make it happen this time. Just let me know, It would be a privledge to fish with you. I'll get with my fisheries buddies and see if they can tell me where they put out their stakebeds this year. Maybe we can bribe David with a hushpuppy for a spot or two.

I plan on being there and will bring paper plates forks and knives. When time gets close I need to know how many.
Wife said if storms are predicted I can't go and I have no problem with that.
Don't know about bring my boat yet as I,ve never hauled it that far before. Some of this is still new to me.
Hope to see a lot of you there.

... seems like this get together may just be the ticket to get us together on GRL. I accept the seat, if it's still open.

I'm assuming that, since most wanted to fish this early & launch at Holmes Bend ... they must be accustomed to fishing the river end :p SO, since I'm more accustomed to fishing on the far other end, and a little later in the month, and casting jigs to the banks ... I'll defer fishing style/method to you, and just follow suit ;)

I'm thinking we just go loaded for bear. I'll bring everything we need to spider rig or pull. If you want, just bring your spinning tackle and favorite jigs, in case casting a jig is a better ticket. That should be all you need. I'll have everthing else, cooler in the boat, pfd's, net, etc....

I'll bring about 4 rods (suitable for rod holders &/or casting) ... couple of small tackleboxes ... snacks & drinks (I travel light :p ) I can rig for minners, jigs, casting, trolling ... or any combination thereof ... so we should have that situation under control !!

I'm thinking it will go down something like this :

0730H-0830H ... meet/greet/launch

0830H-1300H ... Catch Fish ;)

1300H-1400H ... clean fish - set up cooking camp - cook meal

1400H ... Chow down, socialize

Thereafter ... fish more, or head home

We'll finalize plans next week ... as far as the times, things needed & whose bringing them. But, we will still be open for more people to show up ... right on thru til April 10th ;)

They do have a Picnic Pavillion ... but I don't know if we have to rent it, to use it, or if we have to be "staying" there (camping/lodging) to use it.

If that is a state park I think all you need to do is contact them and reserve it. Tom Sawyer State Park is almost in my backyard and they don't charge ther, at least I don't think so, but you do have to reserve.

We need someone to bring a large bowl (or two) to put filets in .... and someone to bring some yellow corn meal. If we're going to have French Fries ... we'll need another cooker/oil & the fries ;) And I'm not saying we "have to have" French Fries :p ... just sayin' that, if we want them, we'll have to have something to cook them in (as well as the Fries, themselves.) I'm good with fish & pups ... but, will leave it up to you guys as to what else you want to bring.

So far looks like about 12 people are on board for the get together. You'd think with all the talk about trying to get a state or local Crappie Club together there would be more names on the list to attend. If at all possible come on over to Green River and get to know some of your fellow Crappie fishermen.

Guys, I'll also bring some cole slaw. Can't have a fish fry with hushpuppies without cole slaw. I also have a smaller electric fryer I can bring for the fries.

CP, do we know anything yet about where we can set up for fish fry? If not let me know and I'll make some calls over there this week to find out.

Bring the smaller electric fryer, if you would. That'd be great. (we might even consider using the big one for fries, and the smaller one for fish --- but, we'll let the "cooks" decide that ;) )

If you don't mind, go ahead & make the call ... and let us know what our options are. Even if we have to rent a camping site (w/elec & water) ... we'll need to let them know 3days in advance (minimum). And we'll have to choose a site ... so the sooner the better. If the Picnic Shelter is open, find out if we can use it - or rent it - & where it is (in relation to the launch ramp & campsites) ... and whether or not there's a restroom close to it.

You might even want to call David, and see if he has any sway with the Holmes Bend guys :p (j/k)

Oh yeah, check & see if there's still a launch fee. All the websites I've checked says it's $3.00 to launch ... but, there's no date showing when that info was posted or last updated.

There is a $3.00 launch fee at Holmes Bend. There also are rest rooms just below the picnic shelter & ramp is just below that across the parking lot.If I don't have to work I'd like to come & meet some of you guys & twist your ears about targeting & catching Crappie.

I'll see what I can find out about a location for us to set up and get back with everyone as soon as possible.

Your Ky launch pass works there. I want to make it but I am getting home from Ky lake Thursday Dont know if I have that many points with Big Mamma! I will try!!

Well guys, hope you don't mind, but I wen't ahead and reserved a pavilion for us at Holmes Bend. According to the lady I spoke with at the Corp's of Engineer's, it's a covered pavilion with picnic tables, electric and restrooms. We have it reserved for the whole day on the 10th. It's located right next to Holmes Bend Marina and there is a ramp there for us to launch our boats.

Thought about running it by everyone first, but figured it would be better to have a place reserved so we don't find ourselves looking for a place to have our shindig.

Hope this is okay with everyone.

That's great in my book. Is it like Tom Sawyer Park here just call and reserve or is there a cost involved?? If there is I'm sure that I'm not the only one that will help pay for it.

OK CP I've got the paper and plastic, napkins and cups and I'll even throw in 4 packs of hot dogs that's 32 dogs. Now if someone will bring buns catchup mustard relish wa-la instant picnic. OH might need a grill and charcoal also.

The last I remember there is a grill there, will make a drive by tomorrow and make sure.

Only a week and a half to the big KY Slab Slayin' get together. If your on the fence about going jump down on the going side and come join us. Looks like it'll be a great time.
