Wish I could. Stuck in hospital dissolving a PE
Wish I could but I'm awhile from being able to go but good luck to ya CS and let us know how you do....good luck to you too Mike!
I will be on Degray Lake in the morning. I'll let everyone know how we do.
Mike hope everything works out for you. Keep us updated.
Going to try the river tomorrow afternoon. I also need a fix
I have a mud puddle in the back of the house that has formed from all the snow melt and rain. I think I'm gonna try a jig in there. I saw a squirrel on the back of a raccoon spider rigging in it. I think he was using Hi-Tek rod holders and those girly Wally Marshall rod with the purple handles.
Or I might just take a run out to Gold Creek and see if Dan floated away and see what the water temp is in the pool.:D
I'll be there. I'm going to try to catch some walleyes over at middle fork and then some crappie probably around mill creek/frontier canyon.
Think I'll go back to black river or maybe spring or elevn point to see if the walleye are active.
Did fairly will on black today, from 2 pm until dark,8 ky. bass,20 crappie and one bream. All the fish had that cold looking pinkish color and the bream was almost solid light pink. All were fat and chucky guess from feeding on the shad kill.......good luck
I fished Choctaw this morning for a little while and picked up 3 nice keepers. There were several boat trolling this area so I decided to try some other places and that was a mistake did not get another bite, but it sure was nice to get out on the lake for a little while.
Degray Lake was a bust today. Caught one and had another one get tangled in the brush.
I'm glad you were able to get a lake fix and pick up a few....did you pull cranks or jigs?
I fished around Middle Fork and Mill Creek yesterday and only caught one dink crappie and one 4lb hybrid. The water is still very cold. Started out about 41 degrees and topped out about 44 at noon. Cured some of my cabin fever though. Can't wait til next weekend although "they" are forecasting more cold air this week.
Turtlebait,
Were you fishing in the channel on Black River or a one of the oxbows off of the river? What is the key to finding the crappie on the black. Just fish back eddie's or what? Tried it yesterday with no luck on the crappie, only caught a few kentucky's.
thanks,
ringo
Went back to black saturaday,18 crappie,4 ky. and one gar that I had tail hooked, thought I had the mother of all crappie lol.
Not fishing up in the oxbows nor fishing the main channel either, fishing any slack or small eddies off the main channel. The river is up but is sorta clear for black, water goods good but still on the high side with more current than I like. The jig color has not been imporant,pink/white,blue/white,john deere, wally word,red/white/char,char.,all colors that I tried worked.I use pony heads in 1/32 and 1/16 and bounce them off bottom 6 to 8 inches, sometimes jerk them off bottom 2 to 4 feet and let them fall back to bottom on slack line. Not finding them around brush or logs, finding them in open water with a hard sand or hard mud botton.Caught a 1 1/2 black nose that was hitting minners on the surface in a small eddie with alot of trash floating on top of the water.
I worked on some boat issues and got them handeled by about 10. I couldn't stand it anymore and loaded 'er up. I got to Degray about noon. Mostly did some scouting. I know I was marking crappie aboout 40 to 50 feet down. I just couldn't stay on top of them long enough to find out what they would hit. I ain't too good in a current or wind for holding a boat. I put some 2oz eggs above some jigs tipped with minners. I did get a big gaspergoo to co-operate. He gave me a good tussel. I don't know what he weighed, but, he was as long as my leg! I didn't even want him in my just cleaned boat. So, I knocked the jig out of his lip and let him be.
All of my spots were like chocolate milk. But, I was very happy to be out in the boat.

Most were in less then 8 feet of water, hitting 1 to 2 foot off bottom.
Had one rod with two jigs tied on and could not catch nothing, had to be either 1/32 or 1/16 single jig worked slow.Trying to work a small jig slow in moving water is hard to do,T.M. had to be work in all speeds b/c of different current speeds in each eddie.
Well, it is an impressive exhibiton of fishing ability.
Turtlebait,
Thanks for information on black river. May try it this weekend.
Ringo
I'm wanting to go but don't know if it'll work out,I'd like to go thurday.
Like Froman said in another thread they acked like they wanting to do something last friday and Sat.Don't think these cold fronts is going to help matters none hopefully they don't bring blue bird skys then they past though.
I don't fish the spawn,I like fishing the first stage as to stay away from the wantabee's.
With our weather acking like it has been more than likely our spawn will be offset several times this year.On the bank one day and back out to deep water the next as to stage to come back another day.
If you get to go to black try blue/white and pink/white....
