Hello all, I am a Marine that has been stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base. I have a 14' deep v fishing boat with a 25 horse Evinrude on the back and a 36lbs thrust up front. I Love to fish and hunt, with the wife and family staying in NC i have alot of free time to burn. I am very interested in areas to fish and to meet new friends.

Welcome adoubles. There are a few good little lakes in the area. One is Willow Beach Lake, off the England hiway.
The Little Maumelle River is another nice little place. Going north, on 67/167 you can turn right at Bald Knob and go out to the Henry Gray Hurricane Lake WMA. It has several little lakes and access to the White and Little Red Rivers.
Gold Creek on Lake Conway is another good area. Prolly the best to start off with.

Hey, I live in Sherwood. Go to church at Marshall Rd , right outside front gate. Alot of military men go to church there. Alot of the locals fish around here. Church has a mens ministry group. They are having a mens wild game supper thursday night at 6:30. May be a good place to make contacts. The food is good too.Thursday the 25th of feb.
1. What is a Marine doing stationed at LRAFB? Going to school/liaison?
2. You will love the fishing in the area, prolly one of the best areas in the U.S. Conway, Greers, Arkansas River, Maumelle, White River, Dardanelle, Hamilton, Ouachita, Nimrod, Greeson, Degray (Air Force Rec Camp there), and so many more.. Top crappie fishermen in the state are on C.C, you won't have any problems connecting with them.
3. I am retired USAF and originally from Arkansas and was stationed there for six years. Not trying to be a smart butt or anything like that. Darn, I miss being there.

We started teaching 1 October 2009 and have been forging ahead since. Again thank-you for the advice given.

I have so many places to go within an hour or two from the house. I used to go to Henry Grey as someone has already suggested. I have been going the other directions since I moved to west LR. Dan at Gold Creek on lake Conway will get you headed in the right direction. It is almost time for huge redears and crappie in his back yard.

Welcome from Central AR. Some not far from you are Lake Conway, Greers Ferry, DeGray, Ouachita, Clear Lake, near England, Little Maumelle and one near you, Pickthorne, can be good at times. Then there's always Bennett and Barnett and Peckerwood and Lake Atkins. And on and on. Just keep checking this site and you'll find out a lot.

Well all i tried my hand at Crappie fishing last friday and saturday night. Boy do I have a lot to learn...first off is it better to fish during the day or at night! I was fishing at gold creek and my hat is off to CrappiePro because Friday night I caught 1 crappie and saturday night I caught four!! Not benificial when you are trying to feed yourself. My depth finder should be here this week so i imagine that will help me out instead of fishing blind. Fridays fish came off a minnow and saturdays, 1 by minnow/2 by black and chart. triple tail/1 on red and chart. triple tail... Any and all guidance would be appreciated! Otherwise I am going to be following that T-shirt that says (i believe) "Indian woord for bad fisherman=Vegitarian"

Whoa, I bet this is an interesting endeavor for both services. From my experience, the two have a totally different approach when it comes to utilizing the airframe. BTW, welcome from IL and a former LRAFB load.
hercload, Yes it is an interesting endeavor but it is actually going rather well! We (Marines) are only teaching Maintenance Marines. Airframes, Power Line, Safety & Survival, Crew Chiefs, Electric and Comm/Nav! The Loadmasters are also combined and have been for about five or six years, a good portion of that is going away this October though.

Welcome adoubles....I appreciate your service to our country...we have a lot of fishing places around central AR......as the weather warms up watch the posts here and you will have plenty of info to get you into catching some nice slabs....if you have any particular questions on certain bodies of water just ask because most folks on here are very helpful especially to people in the service....for right now I'd definitely talk to Darryl....good luck to you!
