Are we talkin about comparing hb units to lowrance , that would require a rep from each company with cane pole as the judge . HMMMM
that is it
Sounds intresting..
Here is the way I rate them. On a scale of 1-10
Performance:
Lowrance 10 Humminbird 8
Customer Service :
Lowrance 2 Humminbird 10
Unit Pricing :
Lowrance 4 Humminbird 7
Even though I worked as a electronics/computer repair tech I do not want to gamble. As long as the unit finds structure and give me a pic that I can reason out.Thats enough to keep me happy. While these test may be interesting they won't improve what I care most about . Customer service.
Others may care about performance or familiarity with brand or whatever. So the matter will always remain a personal choice.
You can bet that Lowrance and HB keeps tabs on what the other one is doing. That's what has made both of them what they are today. I'd LOVE to be a fly on their walls during their meetings after they've compared the two.:p
This is a performance comparison only. I don't give a rats butt about who buys what or from whom or what anyone's opinion may be about this test.
I trust my abilities and knowledge and my friends abilities and knowledge enough to do a fair and balanced comparison and not depend on some report from a paid promoter.
We have the units and we are just gonna share the information. We have nothing to gain except a little knowledge about the units. No one is forced to read or believe the results. Any complaints, well, just run your own tests or believe the pan handlers.
If anyone has a specific test that you want performed, PM me. I am now in the process of writing out some basic test parameters. Gives me something to do.
It is a shakedown cruise if you know the meaning.:):)
To Cane pole tests
When u post the test results picts are u going to
1) post a pict of target item on shore such as your coffee cans gizzmos(so we know what we looking at) plus post at least i pict from each unit with the setting & speed used
2) maybe take at least 2 shots of each gizzmo such as a side shot on west & then a end shot north/south etc.
3) if possible take a pict in hard bottom or rock wall and then something in mucky soft area see how units compare or how they show weed bed on bottom
4) any chance to get a piece of new pvc & old pvc(algae/moss) to show how they compare.
Are U picts going to be side and down images
just some thoughts Thanks Jax
You will need to use different sensitivity settings and trolling speeds to achieve the best possible image from each unit.
Finding cover with fish on it would be a great bonus for the test.
be nice frank
Somebody is playing with the wrong head unit.:D
Maybe do 1 comparison with default settings , and show the differance with prefered settings .
not sure what you mean ? I meant from the auto settings without inhancing anything .
I agree lowrance has run themselves down. You can't compare service to HB.
they might get a pair for a test
When will the test be done? I suggest you sink Billbob and see what he looks like on SI :):):)
you outto see a pick of the wife
Maybe because most of the time Lowrance units work and work like they're supposed to. And I know its a smart-a$$ remark but these people just can't give credit where its due... How long did Cane Pole keep the "sticky" post about the slow gps response rate. Over a year before they did anything about it. Lowrance didn't seem to have that issue. How about some of the other issues they fixed. Dang, lowrance didn't have those either. Just for the record I'm going to predict that Lowrance beats hb 3 to 1 in performance in this little test!!!!!!:D:D
Food for thought...
Pretty hard to make a scientific test out of this with there being so many variables. First thing that comes to mind insofar as scoring, is to use some type of rubric. A person could compare the results from the testing from each unit but there is no standard or baseline that has been set. Have seen some tests where they used balloons but the size of the balloon would of made the fish look like moby dick . Have you thought about putting in some objects.....various sizes (tennis ball, soft ball, etc? Suspended? Just a thought...I know its going to be very time consuming to say the least.
Yep, I agree, too complex to be scientific. I am just trying to be objective. I will put out what data we collect and not bias the data with hype.
I have some plastic bottles of different size I was gonna tape to some of the plastic.
Good idea. I will try to rig some stuff on a string. I will take pictures of the objects before I sink them. We are hoping for fair weather.
Can't wait to see the results!
This is a link to a side by side comparison where both units are mounted to the same vessel and the screen shots were taken of the same structure at the same time.
You can only assume that the settings were optimal for both units.
DownScan v.s DownImaging - The Hull Truth
This is great. Since Joe average fisherman isn't going to understand everything that his unit is capable of, nor is he going to take the time to learn everything these unints will be capable of, going with an objective approach is probably going to be the best for the most people.
I think if it were too scientic it would be lost to the masses.
Many a politician and many companies have went broke underestimating the intelligence of the average joe.
Careful when you start to use terms like the masses. This is term thrown about by left leaning political people. Of course they always portray themselves as the intellectual elite.
Reading most of the posts around on crappie dot com .I would venture to say there is no lack of intelligence on this site.
Some features or qualities of the object under study will be ignored in the measurement process and the limitations of the chosen instruments will cause data to be left out of consideration. In addition to these absolute limits of objectivity surrounding the measurement process, any given community of researchers often shares certain "subjective views" and this subjectivity is therefore built in to the conceptual systems; and it can even be built in to the design of the tools used for measurement. Total objectivity is arguably not even possible in some—or maybe all—situations.
Whaaat- who did that Cane fellar said:eek::eek::eek::D
Yep one those average " Joes ". I rest my case.
I for one am ready to see some results.
When is the test going to be?
