Has anyone tried the Strike King Bitsy Pond Minnow crankbait for bluegill?
I have I love it it works exremely good for any thing that swiws i caught my biggest redear on it and about a 3 pound bass my go to bait for slow bass days.
I know two guys that swear by them for ponds, they say they will catch anything. they like the whitish one with the gray scales on the back I believe. I bought a few, and they are very sensitive to adjusting the line tie with a pair of pliers. they like 4 lb. test.
I use a strike king crankbait a lot that works very well. It's not one of the tiny's but the next size up.It's a shad pattern, white belly to grey back with a shad and bleeding spots on the side, and it comes with red hooks. I've trolled this and cast it and caught everything on it. The next one bigger in the same pattern doesn't produce nearly like this little " secret weapon ". The gills that hit it are filet size. The 1/8oz mini king spinnerbaits do a good job for me as well, but sport a good sized hook so not too many gills get it in their mouth. But you can see them strike at it.
I love this minnow i always keep a couple in my tackle box, for when plastic jigs or worms are not working. The minnow will get the job done.
these are great lures they do have to be tuned ive found that if you hold the pliers and turn the bait to tune them. once they running straight they are deadly i have caught everything from bluegill to bass even a walleye and smallmouth and catfish. if your not catching fish just change up your retrieve. sometimes if nothing is working i reel it as fast as i can and almost always catch some like that. i have caught more fish with these lures than any other lure i have ever used.
The Yo Zuri Snap Beans work really good too. The black and gold pattern works best for me. Caught some monster bluegill with them and some nice bass too.
The most fun I've ever had while fishing was when I was casting Strike King Bitsy Minnows and Rapala Countdown Minnows (CD1) into a school of bull bluegill. They work great!
I love em and lots of little crank baits like that. When im planning on a long day of fishing is when they come in real handy. Right about that time when its hitting mid day and the bite is slowing down i usually will bring out one those or something like it and work the weed lines. You'll bring in alot of smaller bass and nice sized bream. Mostly fish that arent real keepers but they help the time pass while the big one arent biting. I usually do get suprised with a good 2 pounder on there though.
Yep took my biggest gill a few years ago off the blue and green one. Like the Strike King Bitsy Pond Worms too. Also try Rapala F3 Original floating minnows.
itll run straight if you reel it extremely like almost awkwardly slow i replaced the hooks to the next biggest size its much easier to get out plus you dont lose the bigger fish i caught a 6lb bass about a month ago on my 6 ft ultralight rod n reel man it was fun
I bought two from wally world yesterday and took them by a very public bank fishing spot today for a little after work unwind. Tried fishing a chartreuse jig with a spin and a blue/white jig with a spin and got nothing. Put on the blue back (sexy shad ?) bitsy minnow and caught a nice shellcracker on the third cast. A few cast later I got a nice buck bass, so on a slow day, the bait produced a few fish.
I was in Wal Mart today and found them there. I bought three different ones to try.
Cannot wait till I get to the lake to try them.
I caught several nice sized gills on the chartreuse Pond Minnow, also caught a crappie yesterday almost 14" on it.
I tried the Strike King itsy this morning. It needs to be tuned, but it still produced a nice big bluegill and a small bass. The small treble hooks are a pain though. Even when I wasn't fishing with it, it was getting hung on everything in the boat.
I look forward to using it more. I agree with the comments about it being good when the bite turns off. It's hard for me to put the fly rod down, but sometimes ya have to.
I picked up one from Wally world as well. I've done ok with it so far bank fishing. I've pulled two 9 inch crappie, and about 5 7-9 inch gills on a very slow retrieve with it. I'm pretty pleased with the little guy.
They are one of my favorite baits for fishing farm ponds.
They work for literally any kind of fish you come across! I've used these several times lake, pond and river fishing and have caught panfish and smallmouth bass with them. Crappie and Bluegill love these things. Just tune it a little, cast it out and bring it in really slow and you will have a blast with them.
