I have a three bank Guest 2613A battery charger for sale for $125. It works great but can't recharge my group 27 batteries completely in less eight hours which I require when pulling cranks in the summer. Before anyone reminds me of where the swap and sell forum is, I wanted to offer it to you guys first before I go national. It's a nice charger just not fast enough for my current needs.
Yikes, I have the same problem with my group 31's. I just use my large wheel type battery charger.
yeh I know DonDon and Ignert go hand in hand but but what ya'll talking about on group 31's and 27's on the batteries. All I know is I have 2 batteries hooked together for my 24 volt TM system and 1 cranking battery. Just trying to learn here guys
marine batteries have different case sizes. Group 24 being the smallest,then a group 27 then a group 31. They also have more reserve Don.
Group 27 and 31 refer to the actual size of the batteries.....31's are bigger.
Guess If I'm gonna be a boat owner, I need to learn more about them. That's why I ask. I grew up with a 14 foot john boat and a paddle. Then we got a ole 7 1/2 HP motor for the back that smoked like crazy but it ran. I just never had to learn all this until now
Write this Down DD. Bigger = more better. That's a rule. Unless you're talking about people. Then it's backwards.
The bigger the battery, the more plates/acid and surface area, the more capacity, the longer the run time before discharge....all else being equal.

BTW, you need 31s on that honker of yours when you go to replace. But, you prolly already knew that didncha. :)

but I do know I can go all day long just on 12 volt and it won;t be totally dead, just WEAK. Now with my cranking battery, it may be getting on it's last leg. I noticed after running the FF at the tourney, it wasn't hitting hard when cranking th4e boat like it was first thing in the morning. It MAY have not had a real good charge though, only charged it for 3 1/2 hours Friday nigh after having run it all day the day B4
don, also the group 31 batteries have more and i think thicker plates that hold more charge.
DD only issue with the 31's is weight. Mine weight 60lbs each.

DD, batteries perform less in cold weather. If you've got a battery that's weak starting in cold, what it's doing is sending you a text message telling you to be saving your pennies cause it's about to get up and leave town. And, a cranking battery should never require 3 to 3.5 hours to top off even with a dinky do charger. Your alternator is charging that battery as you're running, so even though you were making short runs, you weren't drawing a lot of power while fishing as I happen to know your livewell was barely used. :)
Seriously, you need to think about going ahead and replacing it or at a minimum, learn how to jumper your TM batts and keep jumper cables onboard just in case.

The bee is right DD...dadgummit...he has been right all day today...don't know what is going on with that gewber.
I'm still waiting though. I've got a really good charger, just think the battery is in it's last days is all. WB, my Livewell was used the same ammount yours was NONE, so don;t even bring that up. Really don't even use a livewell. I have a back compartment that has a hole and plug in it on the bottom of the boat. Take the plug out and it's a 1 inch hole that when I'm moving, refills with fresh water. I'll probably replace it early on this summer with a new one but WILL get your advise WB on what to replace it with. You may not can catch a fesh but for some dumb reason, I trust you (yeh, it hurt saying that) with Lectroniks.
I'm just saying, that battery is speaking to you, but you ain't listening. Throw them jumper cables in there, cause you just might need it before you get ready.
BTW, meant to ask Yikes.....nice doilly, you make that yourself?
