Since I have gotten my boat about 5 years ago,I have never used a stringer again.lol.I remember going to an Urban Lake and took a couple of nephews with me and had to make one,what a pain that was.When was the last time that you guys have used a store bought stringer??
I got a floating basket 3 or 4 years ago, and that was the end of stringers for me.
I have one in the boat still in the pack :) Don't know why I even have it!!!:D Have not use one in years either :):)
When we're down on KY Lake we'll shore fish for gills a couple afternoons. Sit back relax have a few beers and put the fish we keep on a stringer.

I use one any time I catch a fish that won't fit in my fish basket. I also use them when shore fishing.
I think they are just another tool in my fishing toolbox. Its cheap insurance if you hook into something big and tasty.
Got a couple hanging around but mostly been using a bucket

few years ago...i dont use em anymore. Too tired of feeding and shooting cooters and snakes. Too tired of cursing out outboard too

Cooters love bluegills and I love cooters. Problem here is gators!!! you have to fight with them to get the fish in the boat sometimes.

we keep a stringer on hand but unless we catch a catfish too big to fit in
our fish basket we never take it out of the tackle bag we like to use the floating fish baskets they work well for crappie and bluegill
Yea pulled a few out holding on to fish on the stringer. I work at a steel mill. I've eaten alot of different stuff. You gotta try something different at least once.Quote:

a cotter is a turtle and the last time i used a stringer was when i was 10 almost 30 years ago
I've still got one of those safetypin type stringers with the clips on a chain. Last time I used it was to drag the river bottom to retreve my fishin rod the the grandson dropped overboard. Just tied it to the anchor line and dragged it across the bottom a few times till I snagged it. :p
I always use a stringer.Used a fish basket for a while but switched back to the stringer because fish managed to escape from the basket. one time I caught a bluegill and put it on the stringer.When i pulled it out of the water somethin' had taken a chunk off the fish.figured it was a bass,catfish,or crayfish since i was fishing in riprap.
Yea,them bluegills that are stuck in a basket get mighty clever,lol.
Been about 50 years ago when I was about 14 I guess since I used a stringer or a basket. I remember that I quit because a small snake had gotten into the basket back in 1959. Scared the sheeskalambooska out of me then. Now I use a cooler or a 7 gallon bucket.
I always have one on hand for the same reason, I throw gills and crappie in the cooler, but have a stringer in the boat when catfishing in case of a larger fish. Thats about the only time I would use one. When I started off fishing, thats all I knew, also had the metal stringers with the clips on them, those were a pain. Moved on to a floating basket, and now a cooler with ice is the way to go for me.Quote:

My stringer has to be over 30yrs old :eek: ... and sees limited use (like, only when I'm not fishing from a boat & I plan on keeping some fish that are big enough to clean)
It's a chain run thru segments of heavy vinyl tubing, with the safety pin type holders attached in 3in intervals (10 of them). The holder pins have sliding clips, to secure the pins & keep them from popping open. Each clip is attached to the main chain with swivels. Each clip face has "C&G TULSA O" stamped on them.

I always use one when I fish out of my little aluminum river boat. Not much extra room for a cooler and it does not matter where I put a bucket I always end up dumpin it.
