What is the best way to apply powder paint to achieve mutiple colors?
Example: black-back;white-side;silver-belly OR orange-back;chartreuse-side;red-belly? I have tried a few ways but us crappie jig tiers are always looking for crappie .com guys for help.
hope the weather here in Louisiana breaks soon! Us crappie jerkers are on go!
I want to hear this one as well.I just got done a three color set,silver body,black top,and a red spot on the bottom.I overalled the silver first,then brushed the top,then poured some red in the cap of the jar and just hit the throat area of the bottom.This was the easiest way for me,any easier ways will be a bonus.
azslabber you do exactly what I do like to hear from the professionals on this one also.with me is still in the experimental stage yet . Would like to see some of your work if you get a chance please post a picture.
These are a couple of tube jigheads.Shad patterns that I did.The bigger one is 1/8 oz. the smaller one was all rusted up in my tackle box,lol.My hands get shakey and my eyes are terrible,so,no beauty pagents here.But,they do catch fish.Makes me feel like an artist,lol.
Next thing I am going to do is tie a black kip tail string from the hook eye so it dangles back like the little thing from the pectorial fin on a shad.Keep forgetting.
your jigs look good I see no problem with the pain . the lower little jig is fantastic paint job I'm sure that you'll catch fish with those jigs. we keep experimenting on it with a powder paint I have here. don't tell nobody but we are in contact with one of the major power paint companies they have some colors and power paint that nobody's ever seen a release I haven't seen it on the market .so I'll surprise you guys with some new stuff if I ever get around to ordering some.

This is a base of white, then I took a small paint brush and loaded it (but dipping just the tips of the brush into the paint) with paint and I turn the jig head at an angle and tap the brush lightly and apply the silver heat it again with a heat gun check the coverage then change sides and repeat till the coverage is the way I like it. Then I dip the "chin" in either Real shrimp pink or candy red. This one has a top coat of Baitfish as well.

Base is a Perch color I mixed, black on top, and white then red chin.

Same above but on a round head but same process.
AZ has it right as far as the process the trick is making sure when you get the top put on this it is thick enough but thin enough that when you cure them they don't run and you lose the concentration of color. It takes a bit of practice to get feel of it and it takes extra time but without having an airbrush this is how I do it till I get an airbrush and a powder paint attachment.
jubs your last two pictures are terrific jobs on the paint. I hope you don't mind if I use your paint scheme I really love it nice-looking jigs . Your color combinations with marabou is really terrific.

No problem, good luck with them and I hope they catch you some fish. There is 7 colors of marabou on these ones :D. I need to see how they come out on Shad heads I haven't tied up any on those heads yet.Quote:
