whatever you use, don't put it where boats are going to run. If it gets bumped with a trolling motor, it's not a big deal, other than they just found it. the fish will use whatever they find. A small tree, buckets, stakes. the choices are endless. if the lake stays the same level all year, your stuff will stay hidden. If the water fluctuates, you can look around and see what everyone else is using, when the water drops. I definitely, I mean positively, wouldn't put anything in the water where people are swimming and could jump off the boat and hit it.
not a swim area or where boats can run wide open. Just looking for some ideas that will not ding up boats when the lake gets low.
How small can you make stakes and still attract fish?
I am going to build stake beds in 3 ft of water in a creek.... 1 ft in the mud and 2 ft above bottom... Will be next to a streight off bank so no boat traffic....
As far as the size of the stake I have caught crappie next to a stickup the size of a pencil.....
Build it and they will come.......
Good luck and keep us posted on your work and catch....;)
I fished a tournament several years ago and found a single stick, in 2 feet of water, about the size of a broom handle in the center of a little pocket and every time we went back to it, it had a crappie at least 13 inches on it. went back to it 4 times and won. It doesn't always take a huge brushpile.
i would use a pallet stake bed or 2 if u can get tobacco sticks srew them to the pallet will work just fine would be a total of about 4ft tall
I was thinking of cutting some tobacco stakes down and driving them in a few places in one of the creeks on my home lake. Trouble is the lake is drawn down about 5 feet right now and if I do it now I may as well put a big neon sign on it. If I wait till the lake comes up to normal pool, it is too late for them to have time to grow algae before it's time to fish 'em.
while the water is down as low as it goes, you can put stuff in. Just make sure it is under, so you can't see it. It's as simple as that. 5 foot deep is plenty, as the water comes up and more importantly WARMS up, the fish will move shallow and use the attractor until it is too deep or they go to the bank to spawn. I couldn't care less about the moss growing on it. Lets say the lake floods up into the bushes,,,,,do you think the fish care about the trees that are now under as to which ones have moss on them? Moss is a zero,,,,don't worry about it.
run 2 stalks of bamboo thru each hole in a cinder block, in each direction. So 8 stalks total, and throw it overboard. Block sinks the boo, boo tries to float, instant brush pile with little effort. Might have to tie 2 blocks together to get it to sink the boo though
Thanks for the help. Do 1x1 work OK or is better to find something more natural?
I sunk a pile real shallow last week....
shouldnt be a problem huh?
:D:D
so thats what i hit
