Is there a screen where it shows your voltage. Like when your runnin the boat on the lake, just wanting to make sure your charging system is working. My new boat doesnt have a voltage meter but Im sure the hb 997 does i just cant find it. Thanks!

Battery voltage is one of the outputs that you can choose to be displayed your screen. In the screen capture below (from my 997), you see my battery voltage at 13.2 V.
Go to your setup tab. scroll down to Select Readouts. Over to readings panels. select voltages on 1 of 5 panels. I believe this to be correct.
whats the difference between 997c si and the new 998csi
Because Im not very computer or electronic savy, what does it mean that it has a faster processor??? Is that gonna make the 998 a MUCH better unit. I don't care about the video out, but I would like to know if my 997 is a dinosour compared the the 998. Thanks everyone for answering all my questions......... This thing is way over my head but with all you fellas helpin me I might just get this dude firgured out. Hell I havent even taken it to the water yet. Just trying to play with it in the garage pretending Im fishing.:D
997 vs. 998:
The 998 has some hardware advances over the 997:
-faster processor/new printed circuit board.
-ethernet port (for future connectivity)
-video out port
Casual users will notice few, if any performance differences between the two. The 998's hardware may support faster chart redraws, and will take advantage of future software enhancements, just as the "legacy" Humminbird products do (up to their individual hardware limits). The one thing that catches my eye about the 998 is the ethernet port. With the 1197, 998, and 898 all being ethernet-ready, I speculate (and this is PURE speculation) that we'll be seeing something new in the networking arena from Humminbird in the near future.
If you're a new 997 owner....congratulations! You've just undergone a major electronics upgrade in your boat, and you'll be amazed at how the 997 helps you identify structure, and then find and catch more fish!

When you are running your chart speed a setting 1, does this compress the image any? What ping speed do you use when recording at the lower speeds?
I don't do very much recording, so changing the ping speed isn't something I've done often.
I see no compression at low chart speeds....as long as I'm moving at a low boat speed. However, image compression does become an issue when chart speed and boat speed are mismatched. Below is a portion of a screen capture that was written with a chart speed of 1 and a boat speed of nearly 6 mph, leading to compression of the objects (8 x 8 log fish cribs) in the image.
For comparison, this is what that same row of fish cribs looks like when the boat speed and chart speed are correlated correctly. Here, the chart speed is 4 and the boat speed is 5.3 mph.
I get compression on occasion when recording. This explains why very well. I like pictures.
Thanks
