What is your favorite plastic and why? I just started pouring recently and have only used the Lurecraft #500 ($40.00). I'm happy with it thus far but I have nothing to compare it to. Please give a price per gallon with your response.
Thank you.

Thank you.
lure craft is good plastic, I like calhoun my self. Has a bit of a sweet small to it when its cooking and I havent had any problems with burning or discoloring although I use heat stabilizer all the time. calhoun is around 65 for 2.5 gallons. I pay 110 to my door for 5 gallons from bear
what types are yall using, dont they have like soft, super soft etc.?
I use soft, it give more action to the baits. super soft is too soft, medium is good to use and still has good action. hard or saltwater formula is good for large swim baits
The #500 I use is their saltwater formula.
you may want to try a softer formula, its easier to pour a thinner stream at a lower temp than the 500 but if its working for you stick with it, use what your comfortable with
I like the Calhouns salt water and M-F medium plastic. If your going to to pour alot buy a 5 gallon bucket of it, cheaper in the long run.
How many 2 inch curly tails can you get out of a gallon of plastic?
I would say depending on the size of it 1500 to 2500 if you dont waste any
Thanks Crappieday, thats alot of jigs.
Question-
I have some - m-f plastic thats proably 15 years old - quit pouring . . . stored in
sealed glass jar in basement.
Do you think it would still be useable?
You guys do some cool work and give great info . . . Thanks
Not sure but I'd melt them down and try. Doesn't cost anything to try. I just started and don't have any experience but why not??
Make sure you MIX IT REAL GOOD !!!
I had some Southern Plastic that was over 30 years old that with a lot of mixing worked OK ... I have some Calhoun that was a Year old and gave me some problems .. asked about it and they do not use some of the stuff that they did 30 years ago (EPA) ... but I bet what you have will work OK.
JSC
