which model do you have?
They look a whole lot better than my pics did
Those are from an 1197.
Thought so.
I have a 997 and was wondering if I can move the readouts to the bottom of the screen instead of them being on the side
Quicksilver...can you tell us what your chart speed was....??
WOW, 2nd pic down is loaded with fish. Those are awesome pics!!!
Thanks guys, Yes it's an 1197
Chart speed was "4".
3rd pic has bait fish being attacked by crappie.
when using the down imaging are you using the 455KHZ mode, does it change automatically?
DI will use the same frequency that you select for SI in the sonar menu settings.
SO I should stay with the 455 when sidescanning and down imaging.
What does everyone use while running the lake and just the regular depth finder mode
I lose signal at about 10 MPH.. Most of the time if I'm running hard, I have the map up going to my next waypoint.. but that's just me.. Curious as what others do too.
It's all about transducer placement. Here's a screen capture from one of this week's trips. Almost 42 mph, and still a very usable SI and DI signal. The 2D is the worst of the bunch, but still readable at this speed.

These are mostly of fish....taken this past week on the Mississippi River.
Here's another showing a nice pod of suspended fish extending out to both sides of the boat.
I use a transducer switch to move to a high speed transducer on the other side of the boat and use a split screen 2d/GPS. That's the solution HB gave me 3 years ago when I first installed a 997. My unit loses bottom lock at about 40 mph with the SI transducer, I usually cruise in the mid 50's, and I'm uncomfortable not knowing water depth. SI is pretty useless at high speeds unless you mess with the scroll speeds, and even then it's gotta be a big piece of structure to notice it, at least for me.
I'm not sure as I haven't seen a 797/8 in action with DI.
I suspect, however, that chopping that 5" screen into 3 pieces would result in some pretty tiny images!
Jason, those are some awesome fish shots.. Thanks for sharing..
Installed the 797 update last night and yes, it will split to 3 screens. Like the good doctor suggested, doubt it's gonna be useable on the water since it's do small.
Wannabe...
