As for white being a determining factor, maybe, but I personally think that experience, feel, method of fishing and other factors play a much larger role than color in a lot of cases. Sometimes color makes all the difference but in normal situations a person who knows what they are doing can catch fish on bare hooks before someone using the "best" expensive lures and has no clue will catch anything.
Of course if you have the wrong color type for the situtation you are fishing in no amount of experience will compensate for it.
