What does that mean with reference to "dragging crank baits"?
Thanks Mr Jim. Are they regular buckets of something made for just that purpose?
probably regular buckets, ain't never seen no official crappie draggin buckets
Some people drag two 5 gallon buckets close behind the boat to control their speed. We use to do it when trolling with big cane poles and 8 oz weights. I had a 55 gallon drum cut in half. That worked pretty well for me. Don't do it anymore, just slow troll and pull crankbaits off pontoon during the hot months.
Regular ole 5 gallon buckets. Nothing special.
I use one that I tie off to the center of my pontoon for pulling cranks.
Economy drift socks.
Ok. Thanks guys.
Just be sure to drill a lot of holes in the bottom of the buckets!
and still wasn't down to bur 2.2 MPH. Maj, you can get some 5 gallon buckets at Lowe's for 3 bucks each. I'll have 4 on the boat this coming year
DD, you need to ditch the buckets and go to 5' drift socks. Prolly 2 to get your boat down below 2 mph. Considering they're not that cheap, you might want to borrow Feelay's at Washington and test to see what his size will do on your boat to see what size you'll need. Those buckets just aren't cutting it. Also, Cabellas has some on sale right now.
BTW, what's the point of the holes in the buckets? Mine are stock.

trolling motor and spider rigging!!!
True DD, but what I'm saying is while both of you are there, run back out and give it a shot. I'm thinking a pair of 36" and you're be right there for crank pulling.
Then again, someone mentioned idling down your motor. Can't say I remember your boat sounding as if it's idled too high, but there's a good idea if you have room to step it down a notch. You know how many rpms you're pulling at idle?

I am going with 2 of the 60" socks.
idle it down any.
It is possible with an adjustment of the idle screw on the carb. Just depends on if it's set on the high side now. Last thing you want is to lower it to the point of having trouble with it dying at idle. This is a job for a mechanic though. Carb screws take much big heapum medicine man to adjust properly and incense and peace pipes are usually involved.

I'll see what I can do with it next time out. Been a LONG TIME (20 years) since I did any mechanicing work
haven't looked at it. 2005 model, 2 stroke 125 HP merc is all I know. hehe
It seems to be idled correctly to me.
I would suggest a trolling plate on your big motor rather than try ing to pull a drift sock. The boat can be hard to control with the sock dragging behind and most socks dont float when the rope breaks or comes loose. For confirmation on this drop Tlow a line and he can fill you in.
Just my .02
socks are cheap either. I'll stick with my buckets over all of them. I had the plate on my other boat and lost 4 or 5 MPH top end and some out of the hole torque
You could do like I did and put a kicker motor on there it works great for cranks and don't use near as much gas
Kicker ot Terrova take your pick!!
