How about a just for Fun tour. for each lake in Ky? If You Have a nice fish post it on this site with weight and length and the lake it was caught at?Rowdy
I don't have any pics of the good fish I've caught from lakes in KY :o (except for some oldie goldie pics ... mid 1970's - Barkley Lake :p )
Or ... did you want to make that a 2010 only tourney ??
... cp
this fish was 1.92lbs. It came from Nolin lake in 09
2lb 15oz Ky Lake

Im all for pappy's idea of making it a 2010 thing. Just make it a running thread that folks can add pics of nice fish as they catch em' throughout the 2010 year. Would kinda be neat to compare nice fish from different lakes and see how the fisheries stack up. I can tell ya I dont want any part of a tourney w/ ky lake and barkley at the OTHER end of the state from me!!:)
Does the fish need to be hangin on a scale?.....oh...that's right...fishermen never lie....:)
Let's do a 2010 thing. Could be fun! Anything could be fun right now.....really bad cabin fever.
Yes I was thinking 2010 and what lake it is caught!
Rowdy
... your idea - your rules !!
We'll lock this thread ... so, I'll start another one and I'll make it a sticky ;)
Sorry Buffalo13 & itsagoodin ... but, good luck to you in the 2010 Tourney !!
Since this is a "honor system" fun tourney, and not everyone has a scale ... let's just take the word of the member as to the actual weight. Since there's nothing to gain or lose, as in money or prizes, there should be no reason to cheat. And since not everyone can fish all of the state's lakes ... there won't be any Grand Champion ... just congrats for catching a Slab from a particular lake.
How does that work for everyone ???
... cp
Good Deal!!
Rowdy
Would you believe I caught my first crappie of the year today in the snow. I was a 8 pounder out of a pond in a Louisville area park in the west end. You did say honor system didn't you. I would show you a pic but the white snow of death was to thick and my pictures didn't come out. Ha Ha
If thats your story, stick to it !! I thought it would be fun to see some other water catches on here? Not that I will have any trophy fish but others may bragg!!
C. Pappy has already set up the site!
Good luck to All!
Rowdy
Great idea Rowdy. Count me in!~
that's where ya'll need to put your tourney PICTURES :p
I'm also interested in seeing what some of the waters of KY can produce. I haven't fished them ALL, and even the ones I have fished before ... I haven't fished them much, in several years. I'm just hoping this will give me, & others, some incentive to try some new waters. And, if not, at least they'll show what their home waters can produce.
We're not expecting KY Master Angler Citation sized fish ...
Size/weight is relative to the body of water it came from ... so don't be shy about posting a pic of a decent sized Crappie, even if it ain't a 2lb+ fish. ;)
(and, if you do catch a trophy size fish, or even a real good'un -- post a pic in the "Big Fish Pictures" thread, too !! )
... cp
Be interesting to see when the first pic pops up on the for the 2010 slabathon, hopefully it'll warm up soon an some folks can get out! Curious to see how this honor system works myself....lol We are dealing with fishermen ya know..... I see jigboy already is leading for bigfish honors!!
It is big fish for each lake, I fish Nolin 90 % of the time and a 1.5 is a good one here!!!!
Rowdy
That is no lie on the 1.5 on nolin. I fish it about the same 90%.
That's what we're looking for ... a fish that's "BIG" for the waters it was caught from ;)
Now, while I've caught Crappie in the 2lb+ range, from several state waters, I haven't caught anything near that big from ALL the lakes/waters that I fish. A 12" Crappie from Taylorsville or Cedar Creek, would qualify for a "big" fish ... from those waters, for me anyway :p
We don't want to set any limits or parameters, on what constitutes a tourney worthy sized fish .... and we don't want to compare size/weight of any fish from different waters. What we want is pictures of the big fish that members caught from "each" of the many different waters of the state ... whether it's a lake, stream, pond, reservoir, river, strip pit, or whatever. That's why we want members to post "where" the fish was caught, as well as how big it was.
Remember .... while lakes like KY/Barkley, Cumberland, Dale, and some of the larger waters of the state produce some "big" fish ... the state record Crappie was caught from a watershed lake in Christian County ;) (which is right next door to Barkley & KY Lake)
... cp
here's the KDFWR 2010 Fishing Forecast :
http://fw.ky.gov/pdf/2010fishingforecast.pdf
This might help us define what a "big" fish is, considering the waters it comes from ;)
While most of the waters listed, show Crappie fishing to be "fair" ... and sizes & numbers are low in many cases ... it only makes it more exciting to catch a big 'ol goodun from those waters :p
... cp
Hello all. I am brand new to this site and have been a crappie.com viewer for some time, but finally took the time to register. I am pretty new to the crappie fishing and am eager to learn anything i can. I used to mainly bass fish, but i am getting addicted to crappie fishing. Taylorsville is my primary lake, so i thought i would post some 2009 pics of a couple of crappie i caught there. Hopefully i will have something to contribute to the 2010 tourney thread. http://www.kentuckyhunting.net/forum...pictureid=1509
Welcome from Hart Co.
Rowdy
Don't know exactly why your picture didn't post ... unless recent site changes make it so that you have to post a specific number of times, before you can post a picture. I'll have to look into that.
I tried to copy/paste the IMG address & post it for you ... but that didn't work. Very strange. Not sure how you tried to transfer the picture, from the KYHunting site to here ... but, tell me & I'll see if I can figure out why it doesn't show.
T-ville is (was) my primary Crappie lake, too. I just haven't been there in quite awhile. I'm hoping to remedy that.
Looking forward to seeing pics of your Taylorsville catches, and those from anywhere else you fish.

My pics didn't post?? I can see them on my end. Are they not visible to everyone else? Is my avatar even showing? I tried to upload different photos from my comp, but it said the sizes were all to large for the attacthments so i finally got a pic of my kyhunting profile using the insert image. I thought it worked, and if not, how can i shrink my images?
I see it in your post...pappy has it too!
I can see the address of the img file, but only if I try to reply to Crappie75's post
I cannot see any picture, in ANY of the posts (mine or his) ... and I can't see the img address, either.
Yes, Crappie75 ... I can see your avatar just fine. It's the picture in your post that is not coming up on my screen. Very strange. I may have to get Ed to look into this, as I'm not computer savy enough to know where to start looking for an answer :p
I can see any & all of the other pictures posted on this site .... it's just puzzling me as to why I cannot see C75's.
C75 .... if you're using the paperclip attachment link, you have to have your pics already downsized to a certain size. That's why I use Photobucket. I can store my pics there, and upload them at a size (640x480) that's just right for use on this site. The free version gives you 1GB of storage space.
... cp
I don't see them either.
welcome crappie75!
Anyone got a Ice shanny? I want to get a picture on touney board!!!Rowdy
no pics on my end....
I can see his avatar pic. And by the way welcome to the site. This 2010 deal sounds interesting. It will be fun to see what comes out of different places.
Thanks for the welcome guys. No big deal about my pics. It was just my avatar and another photo of a nice crappie. Going to have to check into photo bucket like crappie pappy said to shrink my photos down. Had some quality fish from T'ville this year, and wanted to show some due to the bad rap it gets. Gotta fish hard to get a limit there, but the ones i've caught were very nice quality. My brother in law just got a little place on Guist Creek so i will be down there alot. Don't think it has a good crappie fishery but i'm hoping. Anyone ever fish it for crappie. I know it has a good bass population, but the crappie forecast didn't look good. :(
I've fished Guist Creek Lake a few times ... like you said, not much of a Crappie fishery.
T-ville goes thru cycles, like alot of the other lakes ... but, it seems like T-ville gets way too many spawns flooded out. Probably why it's getting a bad rap, lately ... lots of "old" fish and "new" fish, just not much numbers in the "good sized" catagory. Best I've ever done there, was a limit of 15 fish, whose total weight was 10lbs (3/4lb average). I've heard of 2lb fish coming from there, but never seen them, nor have I ever caught any. I consider any Crappie of 12" or longer, out of Taylorsville Lake, to be a "slab" :p
