I've read several posts here about taking the handles off of the buckets before you sink them. I agree that a handle is just a place waiting to snag a hook, but how do you sink your buckets if you can't slowly lower it via the handle? Is the "bombs away" method the choice?

Just toss the 'boo bucket overboard. It will go down like a parachute. I've put almost 200 of them in the water with this method. Works like a charm. You'll be suprised at how slow they sink.
what if it is pvc and not bamboo?? same parachute effect?
drill a 1/4 inch hole in the top edge of the bucket and run a rope or cable through it long enough to reach bottom and pull it back up cable does have to be twice the depth of the water.
bombs away work for me... yes pvc same parachute effect...

When using the dish pans for my cement,add two eyebolts. Take end of rope and run through both eyes and dropped the condo,after releasing one end of rope just pulled it up without no trouble.:D

I leave the handles on my buckets. I've found it's a good way to handle the buckets while loading and unloading. I just dump them over the side at the lake. They always stand up.

honestly guys, I think you are worrying about handles way more than necessary. You are putting wooden stakes in a bucket. the jig has to go past a LOT of wood before it gets near the handle. the time spent taking off the handle can be spent at work,,,a couple hours of overtime will pay for all the jigs you lose in a season. I really like spreading out the stakes though, which even if they lay over, will still give you a lot to fish.
