What do you use to paint the eyes on the 1/24 and 1/32 jigs? Sample pics? I really do not believe they make any difference but it gives me something to do. Actually I think I caught just as many crappie with lead heads as painted heads.

I use a drill bit for all my eye painting. I keep a bunch of sizes next to me and just use one about 1/2 the size that I use for the first color. Just make sure the drill bit has a flat end and some don't. You can get a cheap set for a little money and the quality makes no difference since you are not drilling with them.

Skip is where I got the idea of using drill bits to put eyes on jigs and it works great. These are 1/32nd heads with a 5/32nd drill bit for the white part of the eye and 1/16th for the black part. Craft Acrylic paint and two coats of hard as Nails to seal the eyes.

i have always used dail rod but i will have to try this
Very nice eyes,Len.Looks like drill bits work just fine. What kind of paint do you use? I use vinyl jig paint for eyes with assorted size nail heads tapped into 1/4 inch dowel rods.I was painting eyes on jigs for about 20 years, before I started tying.I believe eyes make a difference in some situations like clear water, glow eyes for muddy or deep water. Tying jigs is an art,why not make them look as reallistic as possible and include eyes. All baitfish have eyes and so do most of my jigs. Maybe I need to switch to acrylics, avoid the fumes of the vinyl. It's probably killed some brain cells and I don't have too many left.:)
Acrylic Craft Paint from craft stores or Wal-Mart.

I use Acrylic paint for the eyes and clear coat with Sally' Henson's unless it is Chart or FL yellow which change the colors if use the nail polish over that so then I use Clear Vinyl over the eyes. My Camera battery needs charging and I will get a picture of some I am doing now.
Same stuff I use Len.

With powder painting does the acrylic paints get affected by two part epoxy over it with the cured powder paint below???
Fatman
Here are some 1/8 oz jigs I am tying for a guy now. These have the Clear Vinyl over because like I said the nail polish will changed the color on Chart. It makes no difference if the jig heads are 1/4 or 1/64 I do them all the same and just use different size drill bits to fit what I am working on.

Skip, very nice!
What type of clear vinyl do you use?
Thanks,
I have a small jar of Component Systems (same people that make Pro-Tec)clear and also bought a pint can, but as of this time have not needed to get into the can yet. You can also get it I think in the little 4 Oz. Jars. I really like how it is over the Chartreuse and keep the color vivid. I hate what Sally Henson's Hard as Nails does to that color, it makes it more yellow looking and not even close to what is really is. I had to thin my small jar for the first time after doing these jigs. We will see how that does soon.
One thing when using the vinyl, it take longer to really dry than nail polish. it will dry to touch pretty fast, but to cure and dry all the way through they need sit over night or for a day. However the vinyl is said to be more durable than the powder paint on their web site so this should make the finish over the eyes really good.

We use Christmas light such as a twinkle light to make eyes. we use nothing but vinyl paint to make all my eyes .
Where did you find the clear acrylic? I looked at WM tonight and I did not see clear.
I bought my large Pint can from the Mfg, but also think you can get the clear in a 4 Oz. size at Jann's and maybe Barlow's. Here is a link to Janns Vinyl and I looked they do have clear.
Component Systems Vinyl Lure and Jig Finish. Large 4 oz. size
Okay checked Barlow's and they have the small jar ...
