I've only been makin jigs for bout a year or alil more, and I just have a simple vise, and I'm lookin to upgrade but on a tight budget, so I was wondering if anyone has some places they can direct me to, or if anyone has one that they are no longer using and want to sale, let me know please!!

While I have 3 vises I still use the Thompson "a" vise the most. Simple and it was cheap when I bought it.
I sell Peak Vises, but they are new and if you don't find what you are looking for send me a PM and I will try to help some. It is a very nice vise!
The only used vises I happen to have would not cost any less than the Peak new and some would actually be more by a good bit.
I will let you know is anyone lets me know of one they want to sell too.

I got a Griffin Spider from Laserdoc.... I really like the vise and was a good deal as well. ;)
I need a vice.I got the cheapest flytying vice that money can buy.I think it was $9.95,lol.I hate it,but,I use it every day.I want a new one,one that turns over without taking the jig out.
i started out with a griffin spider and now i have the griffin mongoose and i love it....its a lil bulky at time but its a great all around vise....i tying from #12 thur 5/0 on it will no probs

The Danvise is at Cabelas online for $85.00.I checked it all out,seems to be a good rotary vise.I ordered it.
There is a discussion on FAOL about vises right now - Vises - They tie alot more of smaller flies than most crappie jigs, but there is some good info. ;) Hope this helps. :)
It is probably the best true rotary that is under $100, but it does have a lot of plastic parts. I had one for the first year I tied and then got a Renzetti Saltwater Traveler (little higher than the regular Traveler, like $210), but that was not enough I bought a Nor-Vise and still use a love it a lot (however it's cost is really high). I do really like the Peak I sell too as it is made like a tank, heavy and well made and probably wouldn't have bought the Renzetti if I had known about the Peak then, actually 4 since I have 2 Nor-vises and I also have several conversion kits for my Nor. Man you can spin that thing for lots of great things, even just wrapping your thread on, but if you ever do dubbed bodies nothing I have seen will hold up with a Nor. I not only do dubbed bodies on flies, but sometimes I do jigs like that too.Quote:

Where did you get your vise? And is it a C-Clamp? I want one that I can have the clamp and the pedestal base to it.

Oh man when I first tried to tie jigs my parents bought me one of the old Worth Jig tying kits!!!!! That came with a cheap little vise of two metal bars that closed by a screw.
Then I graduated to a Herters #9, then a Thompson Model A. Most of my tying now is done on a Dyna King Kingfisher and for my needs of tying flies and jigs I love it. Since then my daugher bought me a another brand new in the box Thompson Model A she found at a Swap store in Michigan for $5 bucks.

I think it was the Mudhole but don't remember for sure. I will try to find it. A simple search gives me at least 10 places to get it for less than $50. It is a C clamp style but I imagine you could find something heavy enough to make it into a stand alone base style.Quote:

Don't get rid of it for sure! If you wear out the jaws of the vise you should be able to put the set from the broken one in. ;) It is supposed to take the beating, but I went through a set of jaws just because I didn't know better when I started and was setting them to clamp too tight. :oQuote:
