I am relatively new to the Jacksonville, FL area and have not done much fishing the past few years since moving here. Although there are plenty of lakes in central FL to fish, can anyone suggest any lakes in So Georgia that are good Crappie lakes or offer any resources I can do some research?

Im in Lake City, and I usually fish Lake Talquin. I know its not Ga but its the closest Ive found. I plan on learning Rodman Rez and Lockloosa(both in Fl just South of you) very soon. Hopefully someone will respond here as I to would like to see if Ga had anything to offer me. Talquin is a great fishery, but I sure would love to get a change of scenery sometimes
I have been seeing a lot posted about Lake Talquin. It looks like it is on the Ga Tournament Trail too. Even though it's not Ga it is definitely an option and as you mentioned a change of scenery. I don't know much about it, but will look into it. I too hope more respond with possibly some other smaller local good Crappie lakes to fish as well. I haven't tried Lochloosa yet, but it will probably be one of the lakes I frequent periodically since it's nearby and now that I plan on fishing more again. Thanks for your input!

I live north of you in Kingsland GA and I am also looking for lakes around the area to do some fishing as well. I am going to try a river out just north of here this weekend.

A number of years ago I lived in Lake City. South of Olustee is Palestine. One of my all time favorite lakes. Some of my best crappie fishing ever was in Ocean Pond. Also caught my share of crappie in Lake George south of Palatka
Wish I lived there now. South of Gainesville is Lake Lockloosa and Orange Lake
also famous crappie holes. Within a couple hours of either Jacksonville or Lake City is some great fishing.
Aracadiainc, I have lived in Lake City for 3 years(in the golf course program). I have fished Ocean Pond several times but never done much good there, so I usually just go to Talquin every weekend. I plan on trying Lockloosa and Rodman Rez this time around(I get back to school on Sunday night). I hate to ask, but do you have any tips/advice on Ocean Pond you could pm me? Sure would be nice to beable to leave school and cathc a few slabs in the afternoons and fish the bigger lakes Fri-Sun.

Depending how far you want to drive, Lake Blackshear is probably about two hours north of the state line up I75. I have not been there but once, but have herd lots of good hings about it and it has a good amount of camping and lodging available.

Thanks all for replying. Lochloosa and Orange are not from me 1.5 hours and all the other FL Crappie lakes are not too far away. Since I live close to the GA border I thought I would expand my horizons a little and see if there are maybe some other lakes in South GA that might be potential spots. 2 hours to Blackshear is fine. I'm used to traveling the distance to fish in the past. Thanks, I'll look into Ocean Pond. Never heard of it, but I'm new to Crappie fishing around here. Any advice or tips on fishing it. Is it shallow, big, ect. i'll see if I can find anything online. Yes I've done some searching, but unless you know exact keyword of a lake name you will get back hundreds of posts with the word "lake" in it, not very targeted. Hoping some members could recommend a few.
If you want to go fishing come to Georgia. If you want to go Catching stay in Florida. Cresent, Lake George, Talquin. You're making this dicision much harder that it really is. Im 30 minutes from Blackshear and 90minutes from Talquin. I'll pick Talquin every time.
Pwrighta1 has it right. Stay in Florida. I am two hours from Lake Talquin and four and one half from lake George. Given equal distance I would Go to Lake George. Large numbers of very large fish. I know I am subject to being stoned. However I like lake George that much. Lake George Information Guide - Florida Lakes Get a good topo map and a decent fishfinder and fish the end of the old piers. Hundred years ago steam ships would on/off load at the piers. The end of the piers were dug deep to accomodate these ship. Find these deep areas and fish them. Good luck.
Thanks Arcadiainc. I'll have to try Lake George sometime. Just getting started again fishing after several set-backs. Really would like to target Crappies which is why I'm here with all the great info, clubs, and tournaments!
I've heard about these pilings from reading some older posts. How deep are they at the end of them? Can you see them sticking out of the water or are they under the water and prop killers?

Great info on Lake George! Couple of novice questions I hope someone can answer...
Can you buy grass shrimp or do you have to catch them?
If you have to catch them are they present all year round? What type of grass? Hydrilla maybe?
Can you fish inside this bombing range or are F-16's going to start dive bombing? :) It must be unrestricted since I have never heard of any active navy practices going on there?

Anyone fishing Lake Seminole? Are the Crappie bitting? Best locations in relation to Southeast AL. Thanks for any advice.
the bigger lake in So Ga is Seminole Lake George and Blackshear . . Blackshear is a small lake but can be productive in cooler weather . summer time ain`t bad but you have to fish early after 9:00 or 10:00 am the pleasure boater get out and the lake gets choppy
Speck-tackle-er, Lake Seminole is about 30 minutes east of Talquin, It is a great fishery when you learn it. Just find the big brush piles off the river ledge, the fish should be there. It is most likely still flooded or at least still muddy from all the rains. The Flint river side should have some clear water in it.
