Here is a link on some Lowrance StructureScan install's, just to get you excited.

don let me know when you are going to cp i might make it down and you can play with one
Don,
I have a couple of question on Humminbird Sonar.
1. Have you tried the TVG or the Switch Fire technology we have for the Humminbird units.
2. The new software update will come with a couple of new color palettes for the 2D sonar. It will be a purple and yellow color palettes.
Don, Bassboatcentral electronice page has many threads about it. The real pics are just starting to show. Be wary of factory pics, as those will be the best you could ever expect. No matter the company. Both units have great potential and the pic qualities are much the result of the operator and his settings. I have some great pics from my HB, then turn and rescan and they are junk. Boat speed, frequency, current, path straightness, bottom type, and 5-10 different settings will all effect the pic.
The lowrance school bus pic is really impressive. I'm glad we reap the benefits of the competition. The technology is so close, that it is really going to be up to personal preference and time spent fiddling. Can't go wrong with either one you choose.

Here are a few of mine that i took recently. I've only been out a few times since i have gotten it and it's only been to the river. To my suprise the river bottom where i fish is clean so not much structure in the pics.

This last picture show the "washboard" bottom of the river. We had some high turbulent water the last several months.

Even the 2D pic has amazing detail. With my new electronic budget burning a hole in my pocket, It just might be time to make the switch to Lowrance. Been using the HB's for years, but not any more married to them, then they are to me.
What unit were these captures taken with?
Thanks for the pictures! These are the best that I have seen so far. I really like the first set. I can see the same limbs on the sidescan as I see on the downscan. One question though, Why does the same log show up on both sides of the sidescan in Picture #1?
Thanks,
Tom
Well I was at bass pro today, the assist electonics manger & I played around with the HD10 & 8 got to look at lots of downimages, and the manger ran several picts thru all the colors, lots of color selections for the down images and yes they were nice but they do not seem as clear/distinct as many of my HB si shots. Take the bus & car down images on the HD10, yes they are neat but I have some junk cars in a lake that show much better detail taken on Si mode with my 997. Of course I haven't seen the HB down images yet cept on posting in previous threads from here. I certainly do welcome the competition & look forward to these new toys.
I went and checked out the pics from the lowrance units (taken by normal users) and they were amazing. Everyone should check these out. I'd like to see someone take a 997 to the same spots and compare the output, somehow I think the Lowrance would be a ton better.
One guy took a picture of what he was going to drop in for testing, and then ran the lowrance over it, it's pretty amazing.
Maybe the new color schemes from HB are the genssis of an oh SH*T moment when HB saw what they were up against????
If this was true then this means that the side signals would be overlaping. the side signals go out on a angle not directly down so how could they overlap, what or how does the water depth figure into it, as the deeper the water the wider the dead space between your side signals...
The water depth is represented by the space from the middle line, to where you start seeing the ground. Yes I agree so look at the first pict there is 20 feet on either side of the middle line representing the dead area that side beams cannot reach in this 23 depth pict. So how can that tree be on each side? is it 40 feet wide??? Remember the side beams cannot read anything on the bottom of that 40 foot area, unless it is sticking up into the beams path.
That's not exactly correct. The transducer reads everything from directly under the boat, to the ground, and on the ground to where you set your limit. It just flattens out the image. If you go over a school of shad, or you run your boat through an area with the big motor, and the go directly bach through it slowley, the bubble, or shad, will show up in the area that you are calling dead. there is no dead area on SI. The down imaging just shows you this area in a vertical format.
The tree is direcly in the center. If you print that out and fold it in half at the center line, and the fold the edges out where the ground starts, you'd have a true representation of what the down imaging does, and how to read side imaging pictures on a flat surface.
Here is the image printed out and folded, which is the correct way to read it. If I flip it around to the other side it's identical. The image quality isn't the best. Sorry about that.
Yes U can see bubbles/shad casuse they are hi in water column near source of beams and yes folding paper trick is how side image works but u still have that dead area on bottom that's why you have to fold paper. look at Hb's image of how their si works. Oh well have a good nite, & a great Xmas
Well, i'm no professional at this and don't fish for money cause if i did, i wouldn't be here.:D I fish for fun on the weekends and that's not every weekend either. I just enjoy it and thank the lord that i can afford these type of toys. And the last thing, i'm not sponsored by anyone but myself. LOL! I dont know why some guys get there panties all in a wad when this lowrance and HB imaging comes up. Everybody has an opinion and its just that.
With that being said, i'm posting a few more pics cause the man requested them.
All these pics i posted were taken on my HDS 8. I done all my own installation down to the ducers for the 2D sonar and SS. It might could be better but for me it works and i understand what i'm seeing. I do think the my SS could be tweaked a little more. Anyway here are a few pics with the 2d sonar setup. Nothing much in the imaging pics but fish. These are at the local river where i fish. If i had to guess what type of fish, i would say catfish, garfish, spoon bills and maybe a few bass mixed in.

The next two are with 2D sonar at 83kHz
The down scan window shows a few fish archs also.

Thanks for the pictures..Real fishing pictures..That is what I was wanting to see..
Can you give me a link to the pictures your taking about that your taking about? I guess I have not seen the right ones. As every one of them I have seen are not even 1/4th of what my first generation HB does. But as posted I may have not seen the newer SI shots your talking about.
I may be looking at a New Unit by Spring and will be keeping a close eye on both. Have Ran Humminbirds for 30+ years. But if the Lowrance out does it may look hard at it.Just hope they figure out to keep the updates for all models and not drop them after on a few years. Thats what sucks in this world now. Units still good but company's drop the updates.
We will all win with both of them having these units now. As now both sides will be in a race to beat the other's Just think what will be here in 5 or 10 years..
Yes thats a crappie 3.7 lbs looking to hit a 1/64th Pink Hair jig :D 9.7ft deep and NOW SET THE HOOK..
Merry Christmas and A Happy New Years to everyone.

I found some good pictures on the utube, I just typed lowrance in the search box and several good shots were displayed, some short and some pretty long and most were real helpful give it a look see
