Very hard to pick just one, but I'd have to go with a 12' float rod. At first glance, most people would say it's far to stiff for bluegills, but I disagree completely. They are the MOST FUN rods for playing fish I have ever used.
If I could pick two, I'd go with a light fly rod for topwater fishing as my second choice.
you make it hard, friend. i like a 5wt fly rod and an 8.5 lt. action steelhead rod too. maybe my question is too retrictive.
For vertical jigging, you couldn't pry my ultralight 5' Ugly Stick from my hands
I also would have to say if just one rod,it would have to be my 5' Ugley Stik Ultralight also.It has caught way too many more fish, more then all the others put together.
7' BPS microlight rod, ML action, matched with a nice, Shimano reel. I have more rods than I'll ever use, but this one seems to always end up in my hands.
Currently available production rod would be Bass Pro Micro Lite series in 8 1/2'
I think this is is the Float&Fly section.. Illinoisgiller
If I was limited to just one it would be Uglystick Light Pro with the cork handle in ultra light action and a 7' length. All the rest would be cut saplings I guess.
I built a 6'-6" panfish special rod on a 2 weight Rainshadow fly rod blank. Sanded the cork handle to about 3/4 " diameter then used heat shrink wrap to mount an Okuma Avion 10 to it. Which is a micro-light reel.
I hold it like a pencil when jigging kinda like the Genz grip used for ice fishing. Its exteme light weight allows me to use it all day. I like to tease my fishing partners and say they must be feeding down there as I just felt a burp in my rod.
It is now my preferred rod for everything.
hays, i live over in boardman. i would like to see that rod someday. hear absolutely great things about those rainshadow blanks.
rapman1- sure thing ,4 houses south of intersection of 224 and 534. Black Toyota Tacoma in driveway. If I'm not fishing I'm usually at home fiddling with something that has to do with fishing.
4wgt-7' Loomis flyrod, but when I did fish with a ultralite rod, I always used a 5ft, but only fiberglas, the softer the better.
Redington 9ft,3 wt fly rod blank that was converted into a spinning rod.Super light matched with a Shimano Sustain 1000 and Tectan 5.1 lb test.I've caught cats to 6lbs. and many crappie, gills and trout with this set up.Not my most expensive rod but it always is in the truck whenever I go fishing.
hays, thanks. hopefully over the holidays i may head west. appreciate the offer...rap
For my right hand a 10 foot B-n-M
For my left hand a 6 foot Ugly Stick Lite
There you have it....only one rod..........(For each hand):D:D:D:D:D:D
Falcon Coastal 7' ML Gulf Spin.Although a salt water rod, the minute I picked it up, I new it was a great crappie rod. Light w/ fast tip and plenty of backbone for those large slabs. It will throw 1/16 oz jigs with ease and precision.
I see a large concensus that are impressed with the St. Croix spinning rods in ML weight. If I had to buy one today, this would be my choice. They're offered in several different price ranges from $70.00 to $240,and the reviews point to the least expensive being the best buy.
Gman
i have a few of the st. croix med. lts. and they are great, not only for panfish, but also for live bait or jig fishing for walleyes.
11ft B&M jig pole, and a new 3wt 7.5 ft Three Forks fly rod.
