Ohio River
Put in at Augusta, nice ramp me and one other boat, it was around 11:30 went to locust, fished till about four, had 20 fish and 3 were keepers. Creek was stained and fish were scattered on bush and laydowns. The temps ranged from 53 to 57 degrees, all fish were white crappie, all off minnows. I hoped to report something better. How is the creek next to Augustas ramp to fish.

I have yet to catch a crappie out of Bracken Creek. I have fished it a half dozen times with no crappie to show for it. I wish I could help, but it hasn't been good for me, yet!

Bracken creek is tough even in the spring. And you will never find a better looking spot. Plenty of brush everywhere. I've caught a few out of there but it pales in comparison with some of the others close by. But I know some people that swear by it. I'll keep trying though.

kycreekboy? You ever fish Harrods Creek?
-
I put in at foster around noon on 11/23 fished till around five, jigging minnows and silver buddy, I did not catch any thing could not find them fished Kentucky side and Ohio where barges lock through, all the other boats were doing the same no fish. The water was 54 degrees.
-
I've never heard of Harrod's creek. Where is it located?

I would guess if it dumps into the Ohio it will hold crappie. Anybody do any good here?

Ohio River Crappie
I fished in 2 major creeks on the Ohio yesterday. Water temps were 51 degrees back in the creeks and 54 on the main river. There was shad everywhere back in the creeks. I fished boat docks, laydowns, brush rocky banks, shad busting everywhere but could only manage 1 crappie. Fished with minnow and float and flipping a small jig in around water in 9-11' of water and only caught one crappie and one white bass. Did not catch a fish on minnows period. Anyone have any ideas why the crappie were not biting. I fished these areas for 4 hours, it was terrible. Was the fact that there was so much baitfish in the area they wouldn't bite? Any ideas? I fished 3', 4' and 6' deep. The shad were anywhere from 6' to surface.
Oh well, I will give em a try again Friday. Any help is appreciated.

If the Ohio is anything like the Mississippi then the fish haven't moved up the creeks yet. Water temp was 49 two days ago and everyone is still fishing main channel and mouths. Stump fields on flats, out of current. Extremely odd for this time of year I know.
-
From previous and past experiance the good crappie bite won't turn on till all the shad have moved on. If the shad are as thick as ya say they are. Just wait for the shad to move out and then the crappie bite will be on. Bull skin creek and white oak creek on the ohio side are starting to turn on now, slowly though. Soon as that water cools off a lil bit more it will be an awsome bite.
-
What part of Bullskin do you fish? I've been in there several times and usually will pick up a couple on the right after the 52 bridge. I've never been up the creek very far at all.
What's it like farther up? Any structure worth visiting?
I went Tuesday for a few hours. 6 small crappie, 1 white bass, 1 small large mouth, 3 bluegill and 3 nice Sauger. Enough for a good bag of meat.

Went again yesterday and struck out, I graphed fish in places, fished ky and ohio side and nothing, just cant seem to get them. Where the barges lock through seen some cigars being taken on live bait. Water is still around 54 degrees. Maybe some day I can post something a little better.

Nice mess of eater CreekBoy crappie/sauger combo is awesone eatin. I havent been out forever cuz of my moreor. Bout to break out Dads boat. Wanna hit the crappie and sauger hard. I think you dock/heron pic have your honey hole away. Don't worry, Ihavent caught squat outta there this fall, and usually dont make it that way. Its a killer one is the spring. Im fixin to start back next week. Gotta put me a biggun on the wall.
BTW, thats a quality sauger, were all of em that nice.

I haven't caught anything outa that stretch either. The big tree that was there is mostly gone. In the last 3 years though I could ease up on that hole and catch a bucket full. And yes the Sauger looked like triplets.
