Depends on how you use your powder paint. If you want to “fluff and stuff” - yeah - it would be good to go with an undercoat (a fluid bed will give you a thin even undercoat). It’s always recommended to use the undercoat – personally don’t think it is necessary. I primarily use brushes with up to 4 or 5 colors and fresh clean jigs – no undercoat.
I use clearcoat mostly for mixing with other colors and sometimes for an overcoat for saltwater jigs. For small and ultra lite jigs use fingernail polish or epoxy for an overcoat.
Mix almost all my paints now – color wheel is a great tool.
Heat gun is the best way to produce a safe consistent heat source.
