I do not have too much knowledge on using powder paint but I tried it in the past. One of the questions I have about powder paint. When you are painting fluorescent do you use a undercoat . The other question I had do you use clear coat. And how many of you guys mix powder paint. Also was wondering how many of you use a heat gun.

Just get you count down based on head size for what kind of heat you use and dip them. I also use a tooth pick to help get paint out of the eye if need be. I uses a hot bodkin if paint is filling the eye after curing it in the oven.

to get different colors. Pink and Yellow in a nice color, almost Orange. one thing I do is I donxt mix them real good. That way when I dip into the powder, I get multi colored jigs. neat looking to have a jig that's got char and red in them. On keeping the hook eye clean, i use a paper clip and run it through the eye and it gives me more control of the jig cause I've not only got ahold of the hook but also with the eye since the clip is through it
i use a heat gun to heat my heads. Then I" make a base coat of the color I want, if I want to add multiple colors, I use a paint brush and dip it in the paint and then tap it over a hot jig head and it makes a cool effect on the head. then cover the head with hard as nails to protect the paint from coming off.
Even with the flourscents I haven't used an under coat yet. I heat mine in th oven but Just recently won a fluid bed in an auction so I'm gonna pick up a heat gun.
For cleaning eyes I use a piece of Mr. Clean scrubber pad with a slit cut in it and rub the paint off so the eyes are clean but everyone has their own method.
These are the techniques I use painting plain jigs, there's several different tricks for when you have swivels like in pony jigs and some spoons where you don't want paint on them.

I don't undercoat when using powder paint. the only time I use clear coat
is after putting eyes on. I used to use a candle to heat jig, then dip in powder. I saw heat guns being used on here so I bought one............
.........never, never, ever go back to candles!!!!!!!
I try to be careful not to get paint in the eye, but if I do I also use a heated bodkin. On pony heads I wrap the swivel with tin foil.

Depends on how you use your powder paint. If you want to “fluff and stuff” - yeah - it would be good to go with an undercoat (a fluid bed will give you a thin even undercoat). It’s always recommended to use the undercoat – personally don’t think it is necessary. I primarily use brushes with up to 4 or 5 colors and fresh clean jigs – no undercoat.
I use clearcoat mostly for mixing with other colors and sometimes for an overcoat for saltwater jigs. For small and ultra lite jigs use fingernail polish or epoxy for an overcoat.
Mix almost all my paints now – color wheel is a great tool.
Heat gun is the best way to produce a safe consistent heat source.
Jigs painted with 4 and 5 different colors.

TJ's got nearly every paint",glitters w/ and" w/ out clear coats and just about everything to suit your powder paint needs for a decent price,the other is probably C.S.they have a new powder paint air sprayer now as well that I just bought ,and haven't had time to really test drive it yet!"Wish it was just a matter a procrastination,but dealing w/ life on life's terms. sometimes it"sucks being a grown up!;)
Wow Grub let us know how the PP gun works when you get around to using it!!!!! I know several who have talked about getting one and havn't done so yet.

Not for sure but cadman might still might have some free PP. Shoot him a PM if you want to try it out…. He has given me some very interesting stuff to work with. Like grubs said – TJ is probably your best source to start with. I use Columbia coatings for special effects (they have a bunch), and their prices are great.

Using an old school Microsoft office photo app for cropping and editing. Have a Cannon camera that has a macro feature. Wish I knew enough to capture the illusion effect.

i remember when you created the injured minnow ledhead i still have one hanging in my shop. I created a new way of storing cool jigs for display. You may already do this but i am not sure. I went to a ton of garage sales and bought old picture frames. i stapled metal screen to the back of this. then painted the screen white or black. and you can hang this on the wall and use the holes in the screen to hang your jigs in the frame. If you want i can get you a picture if i confused you on this. but it works sweet.

ledhed would like to see some of those pictures did you paint the body's glow-in-the-dark to put inside tubes . Yes I've been enjoying playing around with this squirrel painting:eek: I'm going to be more interested in seeing how the power pain will work in the same affect so we will be doing some experimenting.:)

Now that I've had a chance to use it I wouldn't be without it is very interesting stuff to work with recently we just started working with mixing powder paint herself in the future I will post some of the stuff that I've come up with.
ledhed them there jigs r almost too pretty to fis with if i was a fish i would have to bite'em even if i knew they had a hookn'em :) they are truly works of art

It was bad day for me when I made these jigs the eyeballs were terrible besides the feathers some days are not good you might walk away from your bench and try some other day.
