hey you micro-jiggers
here's a jig you should give a try when the skeeters come back next year (or any time really). I got the idea from the classic mosquito dry fly pattern: Fly Tying Pattern Archives - Dry_Emerger - Mosquito - Fly Fishing Connection
I left out the tail, used black thread and a single coarse bucktail fiber for the rib, and a partridge feather for the hackle. Tied on a 1/64 oz jig head. I think you fellas that tie < 1/64 jigs should see what you can do with this. The Drowned Mosquitos (and a minnow):

Good looking OK, those things look like they could bite. They should be a killer on the gills come spring.

Very buggy looking! I like the idea using the bucktail for the ribbing, never heard that before. Opens up a whole lot of colors to play with. ;) Did you coat the bodies with FP or hard head or something? Thanks for the link too... more patterns to add to my favs. :D
-
Attica, yup, I gave it a heavy coating of FP. Otherwise, that bucktail fiber would come off after the first fish
Thanks yall... talegunner- lol
-
Was kinda thinking the same thing, thanks! I'm gonna make some of those up for trout also, would be able to cast it on my FR with a 1/80 or 1/100 head and use it with spinning gear also.
Wish I could paint over peacock herl bodies to make it hold up better, but don't think it would look quite the same after that! lol Need to try the wire ribbing stuff.
-
absoLUTEly and always use wire ribbing on peacock herl. And when you wrap the wire, don't wrap it the same way- counter wrap it back over the herl. That will make it even stronger
-
They are nice jig/flies.
Very good,,

That's why I titled this post "hey you micro-jiggers," because if you tie them on a 1/80 or 1/100 you can tie them smaller- because those 1/64 are some big dang mosquitos! And if they weigh less they will have an extremely slow sink, and look more like a natural mosquito
-
The top one looks very similar to a Cap Spider -- should be a killer on gills.
-
Those look like they will catch a mess of fish. Nice job.

Very nice squitos,I really like them.We get real ones that size here in Missouri so they are not to big. Should catch some gills and trout with them.
