Arkansas River/Parlarm Creek/10-5-09

Fished the Parlarm Creek area between Lake Conway and the Arkansas River today. Let me tell you'all this creek has them. Go up the creek from the Arkansas River find the nast'ist stuff you can find laying in the middle of the creek and verticle jig chart or white and chart tubes, or slip bobber minnows 2-4 feet deep and you'll catch some fish. Caught these in just a few hours of evening fishing. You must be proficient with the long pole to make it work here, and stay away from 4lb test here or you'll be sorry more than once. You will find me in this creek tomarrow morning. Make sure you lock your vehicle and secure everything in the parking lot by the Arkansas River. I have never had a problem, but I have heard tells of problems with theft. I ain't going to let it stop me from fishing, over the years I have had monster catches in this creek from Sept-Apr. You can also put in a small John Boat or small fiberglass boat at the Bell Slough area near I-40 which is great fishing also. Give this spot a try if you live in Central Arkansas. CP

Nice catch, Crappiepro. Wish I lived closer. That sounds like my kind of fishing. Well, to be honest, any kind of crappie fishing is my kind of fishing. LOL.

I don't fish the river much. But I do a lot of toon boating in that area. If you are from this side of the river, it aint much of a boat ride from Maumelle State Park. Three bucks to launch and I have never had a problem parking there.

They look like they're about 2lbs a piece or it is the camera angle? Any how, that is a mess.

How far back in there did you say? And, isn't the water moving fairly fast back in there with all the rain?

SS they are 12-14 inches nice fat blacks for the most part probly 1-11/2 lbs. I go as far as i can up the creek until i run into the monster debri pile and i cant get the WarEagle through. As a crow flys about three-four miles.
I also launch at Bell Slough and fish down the creek from there. You can put in a small jon or one man fiber glass boat in there. If you can drag or carry it or have help. DO Not try to back a bigger boat in at Bell Slough unless you have a good 4 wheel Drive. There is a make shift ramp next to the Bell Slough bridge leading to the creek, made of gravel and can be decieveing as the gravel is lose and slip away very easily.

CP do you or have you ever fished the CUT OFF (I think this is correct name) which is located north of the dam west of Conway. I fished it a couple times but that has been 20 years ago. It was excellent fishing back then. If my memory serves me correct the only way you could access it was from the river. I believe you had to put in at the park above the dam and motor up the river. Had almost forgot about that area as I have not fished down there in many moons. If it is still accessable, I'll bet you can find several limits in there.

Yes Bucket Mouth I have fished the Pumberville cutoff, i think its called last spring. And your right that place has some nice Crappie in it and i think i have posted some catches from it on here. Any way if its the same place I launch at Cadron Creek go up river about 4-5 miles look for a creek behind a jettyon the right side of the river, follow the creek up until it opens into a big oxbow. Its surrounded by private property so you can only get in there from the river by boat. If the river is too low watch out for the shallow sand bar leading into the oxbow. Some good fishing can be found in there.

If i lived in Bryant I think i would be concentrating on the bigger lakes south of you, Ouchita, Degray, Hamilton all have crappie in them. Also i think lake Norrel has some fish. On the Arkansas river check out the Little Maumelle Creek at the I-40 bridge. The limit on this side of the state is 20 crappie. Welcome to the board and check this site often for catches and where they r biting. Good Luck

If you want to veiw some local methods and don't mind too many boats, try Gold Creek and the "pool" on lake Conway. Dan at Gold Creek marina (501-470-1521) can steer you right as to what methods are producing. Fishing there frequently is kind of like the blind hog that can find acorns. Sooner or later you will be prosperous.
I have also been doing well on DeGray this past Summer. I have a few holes marked on my GPS I found trolling.
You also can't go wrong by hiring Darryl (Family Fishing Trips) or Jerry (Action Fishing Trips) on Greeson. The methods you learn from them will work on all of the lakes Crappie Pro has already mentioned. Just don't go to lunch with Darryl. He will take you where you eat what they want you to eat instead of what you ordered.

You can't mean Sheryls in Murfreesboro?!?:D

I have head, but have not tried, the Saline access area. I have a friend of a friend (ya, I know) that swears by the that "area" (what area? he says that area, but who the heck knows what he means. He ain't saying).

Being in Bryant, you might ask around and see if any of the locals do any good and area willing to part with some little jewels of knowledge.

You are right on...I had forgotten some of the specifics about the place, but there has sure been some good strings of crappie come out of there. Nice catch in Palarm Creek and good fishing this fall....BM..
